Hi,

there was a thread about a center channel speaker that pretty much much went w/the L seires. Searched, cant find the thread, was the speaker a CL505? How well does it really match?

Thanks

Mark

Yep - it's the CL505. The cabinet and curved grille is an exact match to the L series, and nothing else, so I assume that's pretty much what it was designed for, even though never stated as such. I've got one, but haven't set it up with my L3's yet to see how close the sound matches. The big difference is that the HF on the CL505 is a soft dome, though JBL might have done that to soften down what the 035Tia might have sounded like for center. One recently didn't make the minimum bid on eBay - maybe you could make him and offer: http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-CL-505-Center-Channel-Speakers-Exceptional_W0QQitemZ5877586855QQcategoryZ14992QQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks

It would replace an HLS center and go with L5s up front and hls615s rear. I was concerned that the drivers are not the same even though it is the "same" series. There is another on Ebay now. Should be a cheap upgrade for my brother...:applaud:

Hi Guys
Why not look around for a SVA centre and give that a try!

I thought of it but it doesn't match the L5s appearence. Isn't it more expensive and larger? If it is 2 more reasons :banghead:

The SVA center is a fine speaker, but it's quite a bit different from the L Series sound.

The CL505 is a decent center. I use it with 4410 mains and L20T3 rears (all use the 035Ti). It's not a "seamless" blend like more modern JBLs that use the same drivers, but it's not too far off. The mids even have cast frames and are mag shielded. I was going to mount a 035Ti in there but it would take some major cutting. That french soft dome just doesn't have the magnet structure that the 35 does :) .

If you listen mostly to music, it'll work fine. If you're a theater buff then you might get annoyed when sounds pan across the center and the tone changes.
