Hi Ron,
Is this a rear loaded horn similar to an old Klipsch design?

I tried to post a picture of one last week and for some reason, the picture would not show up.

Anyway, how do you like the sound of these? Does the bass extend down very low and if so, approx. what frequency?
Is there adequate cabinet volume to extend the low end?

They are a W-horn approx. 6 feet long. The drivers are 2226H in bass horn. 2123H mid, 2421 on the 2342 horn. These are tri-amped with Crown D150II on bass, Audionics CC2 for mid, Audionics CC2 for highs. A Rane AC23 crossover crosses them at 250 Hz. and 2Khz. a small amount of electronic delay on the mid gives time alignment of all drivers. There were several manufactures that used this approach back in the 50s and 60s.
I was pleasantly surprised when I built the first prototypes at how well they worked. The cut-off is approx 25 Hz down 5 to 6 Db as far as I have been able to measure, I have built lots of corner horns and corner speakers and have found all of them hard to measure accurately. Anyhow I was very surprised to gain an octave of bass extension from a 2226 over other enclosures. I tried many other drivers and horns for mid and high, but the 2123 is such a great mid it won out. The 2421/2342 once I got the EQ right was unbeatable by anything else I tried. These are over a year old and of all my systems are my favorite. Lots of beers drank with these playing. I tried many other drivers in the bass horn , the 2241 would probably work great! 2235s and 2215s worked except had to much VLF. These require corners with walls extending out at least 8 to 10 feet to work properly I only had one corner in the garage so I built one because these are definately worth being able to set up properly. I absolutely recommend you try these if you have a room that wiil work. There is a website of Hi-Fi Lit. that shows some of the old designs, this is what I used to come up with my design. I pl;an to try 18s in these, but I don't own any right now. By the way the fronts are removable to allow experimentation. This horn could be enlarged to allow dual drivers or ??? I think an 18 would work the way it is. Paul D I am anctious to see yours I had trouble getting my pictures on cause they were too large. The only Klipsch rear load horn I can think of is the Short Horn. this is an enclosure with a slot loading into the corner and only about 2 feet of actual horn. Ron

Hello Ron

I have a question on your 2342 compensation. What did you use?? I have 4435 networks built to do the compensation on my 2344's. Did you use the 4430/4435 or do the compensation as in the 4722/L200T which both use the 2342??

They are the 4430/4435 compensation with C9 3Mf oil cap.

I think you described the horn I was talking about. It is really just a triangular cabinet with a slot in the back. The top and bottom pieces extend out to the corners to creat the horn. I was thinking that since there is about 4CF of box volume, this would help extend the LF. But I guess that the horn area would be to small to take advantage of this.

Speaking of horn loaded 2226 drivers, I traded some equipment to have a horn designed for a 2226H that will extend from 40-400Hz. Here is a link to a picture of the horn.

The one in the picture was modified for a Lambda Acoustics woofer, the JBL design uses a few more vanes for higher extension. It is a front loaded horn similar in shape to the woofer horn from the Edgar Titan. I haven't had time or wood to build one yet, but if anyone is interested I can speak with the designer and see if he will give me permission to share his design. The design is large, 30.75" x 31.5" x 25.5," and each horn uses 2.5 sheets of 4x8 3/4" stock.

Paul D , yes that is the short horn, I have a buddy that has one. The other speakers in my picture are 4 ways I am playing with. Drivers are 2235s, D110/K110,104H-3,035TIA. This system is set up with a turntable for records only. It is bi-amped 24DB/octave and 6DB on mids and highs. This system goes through constant changes and experiments, thats my hobby and I never tire of it Ron K
