A friend recently bought 7 boxes... 448 sq ft of Sonex for use for a high tech background for a photo shoot. This photo only shows a portion of it. The panels were spray mounted to the set walls and have since been removed. If anyone would like to buy some let me know. He is willing to sell it for $50 per box (8 2' by 4" panels). This is roughly 1/4 the price of new Sonex. Almost all of it is essentially perfect. At least one panel is torn on one end. I didn't closely inspect all of the Sonex, but I didn't notice any other damaged pieces.

It appears to be all spoken for. Thanks for the interest.

That was a good deal. Thanks for the word, I will need to be faster next time.

Here's what I did with 15 of the 16 panels I picked up from Mr. Widget, (thanks again!). I glued each to 2' x 4' x 1/8" hardboard, then tacked them to the walls of the rehearsal room at my house. Some of them had been pre-trimmed to the original owner's needs - that's why most don't fill the panels. Also - that EQ there isn't hooked up to anything - (nothing I have is that flat!). Anyway, even this small amount of Sonex really made a noticeable difference in the sound during rehearsals - much for the better! :applaud: BTW - that room is 15' x 14' x 8'6" ceiling - 'just enough to squeeze my 5 piece band in...

And that little JBL on the stand is just for rehearsals - 'got much better coming along in the shop...

Nice one, John. Your wifey is either blind or really digs your music! :p

We finally get to see your rig. What is in that headrack...?

And, is that an Acoustic PA? Ugh! My band started on one of them (maybe THAT one...!!) 31 years ago. They really suck. Or maybe it was us...? Anyway, apparently they last - for rehearsal use!

No wifey, and the GF doesn't live here. :p

Yep - that's an old Acoustic head unit - we just use it for rehearsals because it's a simple "plug n' play", (it's also been rebuilt in the past with better power transistors). I've got one of the Soundcraft/JBL boards for club use, (8 + 2 channels), plus more Crest amps, and I'm working on some custom 2446J/2380A/2226H mains right now.

I think I've posted info before on the bass rig, but it's a 4628B cabinet with a Sub1500 in place of the E145, and the rack has a Crest CA-9 for power, Furman parametric EQ, and a single-space 1/3 octave EQ, (can't think of the brand right now, but it's OK for bass). With 900 watts dropping into the Sub1500, I've yet to find a place where it hasn't been enough... :D

I think I've posted info before on the (cabinet)..., but not on the headrack...

... the rack has a Crest CA-9 for power, Furman parametric EQ, and a single-space 1/3 octave EQ...So, you go straight into the parametric? There is no (other) preamp? A bassist I work for has a great head - really improved the tonality available from his instrument. Let me find out what it is...

So, you go straight into the parametric?Actually, I go straight into the 1/3 octave EQ, then use the parametric after that to remove room resonances, which are generally much narrower than 1/3 octave, (I'd love to have a 1/12 octave EQ if they made one - 'control over each note... ;) ) Sometimes I use a little "tone contour box" for extra harmonic content, but have found that the bass usually sounds better without it.

I wouldn't mind finding a single head that does everything I want, but the biggest problem is finding an integrated amp with enough suds to push the highly inefficient Sub1500...

..an integrated amp...:scold:

You know better than that!

The guy is using a Demeter HBP-1 (http://www.demeteramps.com/) that - from my perspective - is really sweet. The thing preserves and delivers to the snake (FOH) the rich tonality of his bass (a six string Michael Tobias Design). He then paths to a QSC. A really nice rig overall. I thief a balanced send from his Demeter (never had a GL problem) - it sounds even better than going to a Radial JDI before his head.

OT, He uses Epifani cabinets, and over the years I've gotten him to bring his single 12" cabinet - yields more control to the system (me) with better overall mix in the house.

That Demeter looks pretty kewl, but 'definitely out of my price range right now. Besides - I'm such a tone control freak - I'd flip with only 2 channels of parametric... :duck:

Actually, it'd be nice if we had a sound guy, (besides me, playing bass :rockon1: ), that I could trust to run the bass through the PA. But until then, it's totally live just from the bass cabinet, so I really need fine control, especially over the low notes, (it just HAS to sound flat to below 40 hz, and compensate for 50hz room nodes and 100hz boom!).

Edit: Oh, yeah - I forgot to mention - I sometimes run the kick drum through the second channel of the parametric, (3 bands per channel), and on into the bass rig. Believe it or not, it works quite well. And I've found that if the drummer can hear a good solid "thud" for kick, he won't hit it so hard, which generally results in his also hitting the other drums less hard. 'Maybe a psychological trick, but it really works, (and actually sounds pretty good). :D

Maybe a psychological trick...Make that "psychoacoustical". We all know that works! ;)
