Have a nice "drawer" style deck from A/D/S.
Very stylish! I think model is a C2.

I have a Denon DRM-30HX 3 head deck. It was second from top of the line and $500+ back in 1989. I am the original owner. I also have a DBX 3bX to go with it if you are interested.

Drop me an email.

I suggest you try to find a SONY ES deck, preferrably with Dolby S
I myself have a 990 ES : sturdy, solid, heavier than my amp.

The two things Nakamichi did very well in their day was:

#1. Use the STASIS topology on thier amps
#2. Build sweet tape decks

Both can be had for a song on eBay/Audiogon these days. I love Naka tape decks!! :)

3. AC-3 RF Demodulators for LaserDisc players. They still fetch more than original retail price.

Jerry, the tape decks are very nice, too. It'd be my first choice.

I got a Yamaha KX-1200 cassette deck. It was the only deck that Yamaha used a Nakamichi mechanism in

A few years ago when I discovered eBay and kinda went nuts... I am guessing many of you can relate... I bought a Nakamichi 700 Tri-Tracer... I always wanted one and when I saw one in mint condition that had been recently overhauled for $300... I couldn't resist.

I almost never use it, but it sounds remarkably good and is quite beautiful... now if I could only get a Paragon for $300.:banghead:

I too am an example of a collector gone a little bit :nutz:

Depending on your tastes and budget, I'd be happy to make a fair deal one of mine to another audiophile and lansing heritage forumite. PM me with your contact information if you are interested.

the following is a list of possibilities:

Nakamichi 600II slant-front tabletop deck. Silver, 2Hd, Dolby B. Includes optional dust cover, Original box, manual, warranty card, all purchase and service records. Excellent condition, but I'm sure it needs new belts and a lube job. Steven Sank is the the best man I know of for this service. He also restores RCA ribbon mics, btw.

Nak MR-2 Professional rack-mount (3 space-5.25" high) deck Black. 2 heads, Dolby B&C, Metal, Bias tune, pitch control, multiplex filter switch, adjustable headphone out, adjustable output level on rear, RCA and 1/4" phone jack ins/outs. Works fine, last time I used it. Minor rack rash from rack mounting, otherwise excellent condition. Nak remote control compatible.

Nak CR3a black.3 head, Metal, Dolby B&C, bias tune, multiplex filter switch. Low profile (4.5" high incl. feet). Original list $795. Excellent condition, low hours, works perfectly. Uses a "gear drive mechanism" for reel drive -no idler tires to wear out and slip or sqeal in. I have a twin to it that was damaged in a move (faceplate cracked, switches broken) that goes along with it. Nak remote control compatible. Near mint, save for a couple shiny spots along top edge of faceplate -nothing a black "Magic Marker" felt pen couldn't fix.

Nakamichi 100ZXL autocomputing cassette deck. Nakamichi's flagship deck, and without a doubt the finest deck ever produced by Nak or anyone else -even the popular Nakamichi "Dragon". Originally sold for $3800 US. Rack-mountable. Gourgeous! More features and performance than I could list. The most notable features: 4 motors, dual capstan, auto bias, eq, and level setting function to maximize performance with every tape you use, large expanded-range (-50to +10dB) level meters, and built-in mic preamps and 3-channel (left, blend, right) mixer. Includes optional NR-100 outboard Dolby C encode/decode unit, rosewood case, original box, manuals, and owners' documentation. I really love this deck. The electronics are superb (all class "A" audio circuitry), and the record/playback sound quality is truly astonishing. I won't sell this one cheap, but I would sell it...

For more info on these decks, go to: www.naks.com (http://www.naks.com)

I have others (MR-1, RX-202) as well as Nakamichi "Black Box" components, microphones, and head demagnetizer that I might part with. Let me know.
