Question for the Subwoofer experts.

How well or poorly would the JBL Car Audio Subwoofer W15GTi work in a home application?

I might have a shot at a pair, pretty cheap, locally.

So, would it work? Would it compare well to the home verision of the W15GTi or would I just be nuts to consider the use of a 3 (or 12) ohm W15GTi 15" car sub at home.

My primary sub is 2242, but my secondary subs for light duty are GT-122D's in cabinets(sansui) similiar to the L100's and they do a nice job.

They won't compare to the 2242 overall, but not bad for someone who doesn't have to reproduce earthquakes and the like.

My initial search didn't reveal it; However, digging in the posts that result in hits when using "W15GTI" for a seach criteria I was able to get an answer. I found toddalin's posts about the W15GTi and indeed the woofer can do well in a home application.

If I pick them up, I'll post the project and results here.

Hi there!

This I know :) For many years I've been usering the previous version of the GTI woofer at home (and in car) and belive me it works VERY well! I've been useing both the 1200, 1500 and 1800 GTI and all of them sound very good. The last few years I've been useing a pair of 1200GTI together with a pair of 120TI and I really love that combo. It plays real lound if you want it to, and also the bass is absolutely outstanding!

The "new" W-GTIs I've no experinces with but I've talked to guys useing them at home and if it's true what they are saying it really rocks. And I've no doubt that this is true so go ahead and try it, I'm pretty sure you will be satisfied. The only thing... you need a BIG amp to make the W15GTI satisfied :bouncy:
