I bought my 2425js on ebay and it turned out that one had the rubber ring that fits around the outside of the magnet, the other did not (the moral: check both drivers before leaving positive feedback). What is the function of that part? Is it necessary? If so, is it replaceable (I had a look on that JBL service list, but I couldn't think what the part would be called).

Thanks in advance,
Will.

It is mostly decorative, but it will help reduce the likelihood that the brittle ferrite magnet will crack or chip if it hits something hard. The plain label versions of the drivers that JBL puts in their own systems usually do not come with the rubber tire.

Oh, ok. I'll take the surround off the one that has it then and just mount them carefully.

thanks for your help.

Hello
I may have a couple of the rings that I took off of some 2426 drivers to give me the clearance to mount them in some custom cabinets of mine.
If there still laying around I could drop one in the mail to you.

I 'll look today

Hello
Good news today I found one of the rubber rings for the 2425/2426 drivers.
PM me your address and I mail it out.
