Does anyone out there know how to go about repairing the 066 tweeters.

Yes the tweeters can be repaired. In general a new diaphram would be required. If you are lucky, sometimes a small broken wire lead might need a simple resolder.

Spare parts are difficult to impossible to locate due to the age of the tweeter and the fact JBL no longer stocks the spare parts (obsolete).

Look in your local phone book for a speaker repair shop (JBL authorized) in your area. Or send the units to one of the national repair places (search on line).

thanks I was mainly interested in tweeters that are pushed in.I just repaired one that was at least 25% pushed in by just putting my mouth on it and sucking the dent out.Now I have mids that need reconed.And a pair of woofers that need new surrounds.I own 6 L166s. 4 have new surrounds and 2 need new ones my question is where can I get them repaired with foam that is close to the original type.I owned a pair of 166s new in 79 and the new surrounds do not sound close to the old ones.They had WAY more bass.I can see these new ones are way to tight.

The substrate is phenolic. Someone here should know how to reform phenolic. Now that edgewound has let the cat out of the bag - the aluminum can be sprayed or painted on using suitable modeler's equipment and techniques. The 066, 034, 044 and 044-1 domes were all spray painted after the vapor deposition machine bit the dust. I believe Mr. Widget was looking into a nice high tech solution at one point. I can't remember how that ended up.

I am interested in what would be suitable modeler's equipment and techinques? One of the domes on a 044-1 in my recently acquired L250's is gold and one is not. While it's not really that noticable behind the screen and probably no one but me will ever realize it, I would nonetheless like for them both to be the same. Is removing the dome as simple as loosening the four small hex bolts on the front plate?

Try searching Ebay completed sales listings. "new condition" will likely make
them a bit more dear and tougher to find. A nice looking pair sold there
recently... I don't recall the final price. -grumpy

I think you'd be looking at, say, $150 pr.

Cool! However, get ready for some serious sticker shock. When they were still available in the US, I believe the cost was in exceess of $200 per replacement kit.

When I was bidding on 066 3~4 years ago the winning bids fell between $60~$120 each, if I remember right. Of the 4 I bought one was new, still in the box. Some JBL dealer or repair shop in MA. was cleaning out his storage room and put 3 066 up for bid. Like I said, one was new the other two barely used.

That is certainly a more digestible price. I guess I should think about getting some. Only two of the eight 066s I have are in pristine condition.

I got two at the "bad" price for myself a few years ago and four at the "good" price for forum members more recently. :rotfl:
