I am looking for a monitor for my desk. I have 2 sets of JBL's in the house now, and would love a set of "montiors" that sound as close to the same as possible. Both use the LE25-4 tweeters and LE5-6 mids.

As far as I can tell the L19 and 4301B are nearly identical with a little edge going to the 4301B's, but should be both what the doctor ordered. Do you guys agree?

I have the size of these speakers, 19 X 11.5 x 11.5 to work with.

Any other recommendations?

LSR 25p (avitar) LSR28's are very good but somewhat pricey

I'd like to spend no more than $200 for a set, those look neat though, but how will they sound compared to the L-36?

Take a breath.
4301 is a much better speaker than 4406.
B4 you ask, are these monitors going to be used next to a CRT TV?
If so you may have to look at JBLs' that are shielded, a'la Control series.
Have fun and there's something mystical about the blue fronts of monitors.
I have it on good authourity that upon the removal of the grill covers owners also tend to disrobe.
I keep the covers on mine except for special days that end in a Y

Thanks Mike, they'll be going next to my LCD monitor, I don't think it will be a factor. I love the JBL blue too. Its really neat, it somehow makes the speakers sound better too :)/

4301 is a much better speaker than 4406.D'oh! :p

I wouldn't say it's much better than the 4406. I've owned both in a variety of environments.

In any case, the 4301 and L19 are examples of those rare systems that end up being so much more than the sum of their parts. Cheapest 8-inch LF + cheapest 1.4-inch HF + nice network + spot-on vented box = surprisingly good system. Compare directly with the 4408, which is a more modern take on the theme with greater bandwidth, power handling, etc., etc.

Can the same be said about the L36's?

Can the same be said about the L36's?Not with as much conviction. Something happened building a 10-inch version of that 8-inch transducer. I sure reconed alot of blown 125/127's back then. More than any other driver actually.

I personally liked the L36 well enough but the L50 was a newer version of that theme. Owned them once too. An even newer take on that theme would be the 4410.

I could not agree more, despite owning many more expensive, better specced JBLs, there is something "right" about the L19/4301. They are truly amazing little speakers! The cabs seem substantial for the units within too, definitely keepershttp://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/biggrin.gif.
Time to take a photo.

Also, isn't the L19 = 4301, (alnico LF), and L19A = 4301B, (ferrite LF)?

Not with as much conviction.

So you are saying that you liked the L19/4301's better than the L36's? Somehow I find that hard to believe.

So you are saying that you liked the L19/4301's better than the L36's? Somehow I find that hard to believe.Well, close your eyes and click your heels three times.

I'm trying to be nice. I was a fan of the LE10, not the 125/127. The 125/127 was fine for it's intended application. I was in the LE10 league. Why would I want a 125/127 when I could have an LE10?

What about the L16's?
