JBL info needed 125A?

Newbie here, and I hope I am in the correct forum, and the pics are OK..

I just picked up a pair of JBL's pretty cheap. They need surrounds, of course, but the cabinets are in surprisingly good shape. They have no badges on them anywhere, with the exception of one JBL grill badge. They have brown cloth on the grills.

So I take it, they are pretty decent speakers? YES i think so JBL made very few bad speakers. They utilize 125A woofers LE25-2 tweeters. If you do a search on them here, you will find out almost anything you need to know. REGARDS JIM

Sorry for the confusion. I knew they were good, and it appears they were well worth the $35 I paid. This is my first set of JBL's. I have 2 pair of Pioneer HPM 100's, (one pair I purchased new in the 70's. Passed on a set of JBL 100's back then), some Advents, AR's, and a pair of KLH 17's. I plan to refoam the JBL's, and use them with a Harmon Kardon A50K 25wpc tube amp, I use to listen to vinyl. I think the JBL's and the HK will go nice together.

Yup, they're nice little speakers. Pretty much the same configuration as my 4301BE's. If you pay a professional to do the work, you're looking at $40 to $65 per speaker to do new surrounds and dust caps.

The tweeter is an LE25-4 You sure? i thought the L26 decade used LE25-2 and the L26A decade used LE25-4 Tweeters. oh well its kinda hard to see exactly what he has there other than some version of a L26:)

I have ordered surrounds, and dustcaps from www.wooferrepair.com (http://www.wooferrepair.com). Yesterday I started working on the cabinets, and restained them a slightly darker shade of oak. It appears that some sort of badge has been removed next to the tweeter, and I assume finding replacements would be almost impossible. I may repaint the front of the cabinets in black. Not sure, as the grills, (in great shape, I might add), will cover them.
Anyone know where I might find the missing decals, and 1 missing JBL logo for the grill?

One last thing. Does the surround go on top or behind the cone?

The badge that you mention is called a foilcal. JBL had the bad habit of hiding the crossover mounting screws behind it. They are usually destroyed by removing them, and good ones are hard to find.

Nice job on rescuing the L-26's! I'm glad they're sounding nice for you. Too bad about the foilcals, though jpg's of some of them have been reproduced here on the site (do a search). Not sure how you'd get a repro pair, though, I'm sure that has been discussed.

They are great speakers. They are very well suited to rock music. The l26's i own currently reside in my dorm room being driven by a nad 7155. i couldn;t be more pleased.

I just picked up a pair of L36's today, with very nice cabs. I paid $50, and will spend another $25 to refoam.

Me too...about 30 years ago! I have the L40s, which replaced the L26 in 1977.

I remember the L26 and L36 very well during my college days when I worked in an audio store that handled these. The L26 in particular was very popular. If my memory serves me correctly, they used to retail for $312/pair. In those days, JBL was a "fair trade" product, i.e. they were sold only through authorized retailers who were required to sell at the MSRP. (Unbelievable to think that places like Best Buy sell JBL products now)!

Anyway, your cabinets and surrounds look great. Good luck with your restoration. These were sweet speakers...enjoy!
