Hi.

this is my first posting in this exellent forum. I've just bought a pair of 4430 and I love the sound of those big boys... however, I have some questions regarding enhancements and modifications:
1. The woofer edges seems to be all right, no "rot" in sight... does that mean that they in fact are all right? Is there any way to check that the woofers are in good condition?
2. I would like to drive these babies active, with a 48dB/oct filtre from Marchand Electronics. Would it be possible to lower the crossover freq. to 800Hz?
3. I would also like some input about the longevity of the HF drivers, do they really last "forever" if not overdriven? And again, how does one check for deteroation?
Best Regards

1) If the surrounds are intact, they are likely fine. Inspect for cracking, is all.

2) No. Full passive is better even than JBL's recommended biamp configuration. Read up on 4430 in the forums. It's a balanced, tuned system. Mess, if you like, if only to satisfy yourself this is so.

3) If your HF drivers are 2425H or 2426H, don't worry about them.

Thanks a bunch... you just made my day :)
What type of amplifier would you recomend? I am using a Audiolab 8000S (2x60W RMS, 40A peak), but i feel that something more substantial would be all right..

I once bought a pair of 2231's with the surrounds intact. That was only because they had not seen any action in 10 years. After 10 minutes there was not much surround left...

So, if the surrounds look intact and still are after a weeks use, then I'd say they are fine for the moment.
