IMO, "might" is a poor excuse for censorship and censorship is a poor excuse for moderation. analogbass has it coming, he wasted over an hour of my time on the phone asking his deceitful questions just to insult all of us with his bottom feeder B/S. The thread doesn't need to get ugly just the truth of the matter needs to be exposed. Lifes too short to suppress the truth, if you can't take it, stay off the site, if you disagree, post it, don't close it. That's my $.02.:blah:

Edit: For the record, you guys know I support the moderators for a job nobody else wants, I just don't support this "might" reasoning for closure. If we continue breeding, we might run out of food but that doesn't stop all the *******!

Personally, I'm glad it was closed. The points were made - it was just starting to beat a dead horse, and a mob mentality seemed to be developing, with people that seemingly had no bearing on the subject just jumping in to add to the bashing...

The thread should have been closed after post number one.

The opening post was begging for the poster to get a paver tossed at his head to see if it would bounce off or not. :thnkfast:

I'm not a moderator for the simple reason that I would have deleted everything after his first post and booted him off the forum permanently. I go through this thing on a couple other websites that are infinitely more brutal than this one. Bad behavior is rewarded with a smack upside the head and swift boot in the ass into the ether. I don't believe in calm, cool, and collected responses when a swift and violent response is far more expedient. Fire and forget. Let someone else clean up the mess when the smoke clears.

Man, I was just getting warmed up on this guy, then you close the thread.I believe it would have been better for a moderator to have pm this guy and told him that name calling is not allowed on this forum(bottom feeder). But since this was not done and the first post was allowed to continue then the thread should have been allowed through it's entirety. the responses this man got was his own doing.Moderator's, It must be a demanding job here,to sift through all the BS and keep it all civil, but like Giskard said the first post should have been close. You as the moderator allowed the first post to continue when this one night wonder flame'd our member's,This guy doesn't really know or care what's going on here and only stop's by now and then to sell his wares. You must read between the lines sometimes in these posts and you will then see where it's going. After reading the first post by this guy I could tell instantly where it was going. An ounce of prevention is an pound of cure.

I learned something with that thread. I learned how to use the ignore list.

I don't like the ignore list. Their names still show up in the thread which I find to be more annoying that the people themselves. :p

Johnny shut it down and I support his actions. We as moderators are always behind the eight ball here. You do realize your damned if you do or damned if you don't. We are in a no win becasue no matter which way we go we are going to piss someone off. That's one reason I try to let things run there course unless it seems like the thread has turned for the darkside. That's a very hard thing to do because sooner or later it will get ugly. I retrospect I should have killed it when I posted to keep it civil, that would have been it although I am sure someone still would have complained. I think Giskard is right on target as far deleting it from the start and Kingjames has a good point about a PM to the guy. I think the most logical course of action is the just delete the thread from the start. Treat it just like spam and warn the guy as suggested. This way it's easier for us as Moderators and it keeps the peace.

Of course there's the "I was born ugly, what's your excuse?" school of thought. Someone else's ugliness is not justification to be ugly too.

Yeah, yeah, I know, sometimes we want to be ugly. Just realize we make ourselves ugly; other people don't.

And you know agreeing with Giskard only encourages him. I think the original "bottom feeder" post should have been the last, but I'm not agreeing with Giskard. No, no. :scold: It's a coincidence.

Encourages me in what way?

To cast your bread upon the water.

As an afterthought, I would have amended the statement to read "..agreeing or disagreeing with Giskard...", then I thought, "Well he doesn't really need any encouragement at all, he's always been his own man since I've been on the LH site."

So, there you have it.

This forum has fantastic members. I have often viewed the development of problematic threads. I am proud of the self justice you all seem to apply to this forum.

Thanks.
