240ti vs. L100 Century Gold?

I would like to hear personal opinions on this comparaison if possible.
Preferably from a lucky person that heard them both :p

Now that 250ti Jubilee's are otw for the living room, I want one of these to use in my 15x20 personal room. (to replace S38's in my avatar)
These will be driven by 120W RMS @8ohm (160W @4ohm) vintage amp.

I have not had any experience with the Century but I have with the 240ti. About 5 years ago and was going to build the "ultimate" home theater. I had 250ti's for the fronts and 240ti's for the rears. Ran into some road blocks in finding an appropriate center. Anyway, what impressed me about the 240's was how close they were in sound to the 250's! Most all the bass, all the highs, and just a touch more laid back on the mids. I had them in a large room and certainly the 250's presented a bigger sound stage but in a "real world" room, I don't think you could go wrong with the 240's. They will certainly out perform my current L-65a's, which are a great speaker in their own right! There is a pair of 240ti's on ebay. I think the same pair are also on Audiogon. $1100 may be a little high but they are rare and his look like they are in great shape. I should have kept mine. Traded them for a guitar amp.:banghead:

I don't think one could go wrong with either system.
The Century Gold and 240Ti were designed by the same JBL Engineer.
The Century Gold is a "collectible" for those who care about such things.
I have always liked the 240Ti and it is my least favorite of the Ti Series.
The Century Gold is definitely a step up from the 120Ti and I would take it over the LSR32.

I found out that there is a big difference pricewise.

Here in Europe, 240ti's can be found 450-900Euro range. (600-1100$)
On the other hand, I found L100 Gold's are in 2200-2800$ price range. :blink:

As far as I understand there won't be a difference that will justify 3x price as I really do not care about collectibility.

It is only quality and joy of sound/music I am after. :p

The 240Ti is my least favorite of the Ti Series. :dont-know And it happens to be the only member I'm running right now after a very extended stay by a pair of 4430's. :p The sentence really isn't saying much since I've been a huge fan of the entire Ti Series since it first came out. I've run the 18Ti's with B380's, B460's, B212's, 4645's. I've run the 120Ti's, 240Ti's and 250Ti's here, there and everywhere. They're all just really nice, well behaved systems in my opinion. Naturally the 250Ti is my favorite, although I do prefer the 3-inch coiled 112H/2108H to the 2-inch coiled 108H. What can you do? The 108H is the proper driver for that specific system.

I was watching Fantastic 4 two nights ago and saying to myself (like I've done hundreds of times before) "Damn! These things sure sound good!" :yes:

My stock 240Ti boxes are soon to go to another forum member along with my b-stock pair of LE14H-1's. I building new boxes similar to PT800 boxes for my LE10H's, 104H's, and 044Ti's. Those sealed 10-inch 3-way 110Ti's will cross over to any of my three sets of subs. 121H's, LE14H-1's, or SUB1500's (I sold my 2242H subs).

The only reason I'm letting the 240Ti's go is because they don't fit in with my current room. I need a different solution. I've never been married to JBL enclosures. Just the transducers.

It is only quality and joy of sound/music I am after. :pWell, I would be highly surprised if you were disappointed. I certainly wouldn't pay three times the price for Century Golds over 240Ti's. Even identical price could be a tough call and would beg a good listen to both. The 240Ti definitely has better LF response.
