Thanks!:) Haha you start out by telling everyone that the paradigm ref 60 v2s are better than your current JBL L80ts Hmmmm........... Well they are both nice speakers. different sound alltogether though. Sure the L80ts can be improved on, Any ideas as far as budget and size goes? Its kinda hard to give advice without some general idea of how far you want to upgrade. Let us know your thoughts on that first. there are real experts here, and they would love to give you advice on how to make you forget all about your Ref 60s by trouncing them with a large set of jbls:applaud:

Take a look at the Project Array Series. They should be available by now as they were supposed to start shipping at the end of last year.

http://www.jbl.com/home/products/series.aspx?SerId=PTS&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA

If you don't mind the used market and you don't mind big, you may want to look at the 250Ti.

I'd avoid the older horn based systems unless you've heard some and like them. They really aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Thanks for the replys, i was just being honest in regards to what i have owned.
I actually prefer the used market but will look into the speakers you posted.
My limit would probably be $1000 for the used market, i was thinking about the century 100's and a local has the 4311b for sale.

I just want a speaker that you would get excited about listening too.

Thanks! :)

Thanks! :) In my humble opinion, century 100s would not be a step up sound and performance wise from your L80ts. I know by saying this im going to make a L100 lover mad at me. its just my opinion is all. For a grand you can do far better. L65s for example can be had for less. L150s will stomp centurys also. L220s can be had for under a grand. L7s are awesome speakers if you were lucky you could buy 2 pair for $1000- $1200 price range. xpl series are something to consider also. There is a member by the name of Ti dome that is an expert in that area, Nice guy too. WOW thers so many great speakers that can be had for a grand or so, These are only a few. Take your time, Ask lots of questions, Do a search here on any model that catches your eye, There is lots of info and pics here if you do a search on probably every speaker jbl ever made. Have fun - good luck:applaud:

Just as I'm ready to stomp on you, you call me a nice guy! :montyp: Doh! :homer: (You know I'm kidding, right?)

Mike33: Oh well, Jim's correct, the L7 would be a big step up from the L100, no doubt. Some people might think they're a bit difficult to set up; the L5s are very nice, too, and easy to use--basically plug and play for excellent sound. These will easily trounce L100s. I've seen a pair of L5s go on ebay for less than a pair of so-so L100s. Imagine that!

As much as I love L100s, there's no rational justification for L5s selling for less. I've even purchased some L7s for less than a pair of good L100s. Maybe that's why I've got seven L7s and only four L100s.

The better JBL bargains tend to be in higher end speakers made ten to fifteen years ago, rather than in some of the more vintage or more recent products. You can typically get speakers that sold for $1000 to $2000 each for $400 to $800 a pair.

Nope, we'll all find out by year's end.

Am I gonna have to sell all my current gear when I find out? Will that be enough? :spin:

Dont know if i could take another stomping lol. No disrespect intended to L100 owners. they play an important role in JBL heritage. And are certainly more valuable than L80ts. WOW 7 L7s huh, That would make one heck of a home theater no sub required :applaud:

Thanks for the info guys, bt the way....i am in Toronto, Canada.
I do not know of places to get older JBL speakers other then ebay.
I would expect that the future shop current jbl speakers are nothing to consider?

Just thought i would add that i have the 80T sounding alot better, they seem to like being spread wide apart and in the corners, in my room anyway.

Man, rough crowd today...
I have found that the L100T3 was a big step up from the L80t. In fact, I read in a recent post the opinion that the 80t was the underachiever of the group (t series). I have been incredibly happy with my 100t3 (have two pair), and they can be found easily within your price range. But know ahead of time, they do like to be spread apart and away from the back wall.
Good luck.

The components and crossover are considered good that i have?

The components are fine. I'd personally use the 4410 crossover. They're easy to build.

Crossovers make or break a system.

Good luck.Yes the L100t3 is a big step up from the L80t. They have different woofers and tweeters. the L80t and L100t had the same mid and tweeter. 10" and 12" woofers respectively. the L80t3 and L100t3 had the same mid and tweeter. 10" and 12" woofers respectively. the L80t and L80t3 are different speakers. the L100t and L100t3 are different speakers. Lots of people seem to think they have the same drivers not so. ie the L100t had the 2214h aquaplas woofer. the L100t3 had the 2214h-1 aquaplas woofer. the Tweeter in the L80t L100t and the L80t3 and L100t3 are also slightly different. different crossovers between the T and t3 series also. Different cabinents between the Tand T3 series. Better power handling and better sound imho in the T3 series though. of course the retail price went up in the T3 series. Acutally i have seen lots of t series speakers for sale on ebay but very few T3 series. Wonder why? maybe fewer T3s made ? Both series though T and T3 are very nice speakers and a true bargain in there price range:applaud:

[QUOTE=eyedoc]so what exactly is the difference btn the 2214h and the 2214h-1?[/QUOTE The recomended amplfier was 200 watts for the L100t with the 2214h. The recomended power for the L100t3 with the 2214h-1 was 400 watts. the 2214h cone was black with white aquaplas the 2214-1 cone was white with black aquaplas, if i remember correctly. also the L80t and L100t used the 035ti tweeter. the L80t3 and L100t3 used the 035tia tweeter. Also there were differences between the crossovers in the 2 models. there may be other changes also between the 2214h and the 2214h-1. Giskard would probablly know for sure, he is one of the experts here. Im just a newbie myself trying to learn as much as i can. one thing is sure in my mind though, the L80t3 sounds better than the L80t. The L100t3 sounds better than the L100t.:)

01-19-2006, 12:36 PM
Having owned the 80t3 and 200t3 i think that whatever differerences there are in components, the practical difference in hearing them is that the bigger driver means more bass and a bigger sound. That said, the 80t3s are also good, especially for the low price. Those speakers are probably less colored and more neutral than some other vintage JBLs; whether this is good or bad is personal taste.

Those speakers are similar to 44 series monitors in sound IMO. 44 series monitors have the advantage of being somewhat smaller, while the prices are somewhat higher in regards to the 80/100/200. That's the main difference IMO.

Welcome, fellow Torontonian. Yes, I would forget about Future Shop. Keep your eye on the pro audio distributors, sometimes interesting used JBL stuff pops up. Are you interested in building, or just plug 'n play?

Do you have something available?
Also does anyone have the boxes referred to available? (with crossovers).

Thanks,
