Hi

I have been told that the s9500 is down -24db @ 21.000hz,
is this someting anyone can confirm?

Maybe this would be easy to fix, maybe with digital-EQ:ing.
Lower the sensitivity from 98db to 90db before the drop,
and then EQ the dropped freq up..

THEN, on.. Active crossowers seems to be something the
K2 likes.. Instead of the built in crossowers..

I think the DSC280 has some built in presets..

has anyone heard the s9500 ?

If you look at this one:
http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/jbl/specs/home-speakers/1990-k2-s9500/page07.jpg

There is nop drop at 21000hz,
the spec reads:

33hz - 21000hz -6db, hmmm....

maybe, the K2 is really nice at all..

Sorry they are doing my floors I must be breathing to much polyurethane.:p I deleted the post as it made no sense at all. I was wondering why you would want to do that. Seems a strange way to spec the roll off??? -6 at least makes sense.

Hi Niklas,

I could have written in swedish, but for other people to understand, I write in english...
This weekend coming up now, there will be a small hifi exebition in Horten, about an hou soth of Oslo. About 40 minutes north of Sandefjord.
The new K2`s will be on that show, so if you want to come and have a look, and listen to them, why dont you take Ryanair over to Torp airport? It will only cost you some few swedish kroner.
Info about the exebition is here:
http://www.audes.no/messe/hifimesse03.htm
I live only 10 minutes away from Torp, and could take you for free to Horten if you are interested. I am going there myself anyway...

I came back from the exebithion just about 20 minutes, and my ears are still ringing! I was in the JBL room for almost an hour listening to the new K2`s.
Let me first tell you that the room was just a hotel room stripped for furnitures and beds. So it was far far from good listening conditions. That was what Claus, from www.imageaudio.no also said. It was like having a demo in a broom closet.
Anyway, I can tell you one thing: These speakers need a very large and high quality amplifier. We tried it first with a 100 watt tube amplifier from McIntosh. Sounded all right, but not that impressive. The amplifier was running to hard already at moderate listening levels. So we connected a 400 watt transistor power amp. Also this one from McIntosh. It was powerful, clean and dynamic. No doubt about that.
But the listening room should have been better. I will see one day if I can go over to Imageauido, that is just about 5 minutes from where I live, and see if I can get a proper demo there. They have a bigger and better room.
Come over Niklas, and lets go for a demo! I bet you can get a ticket at www.ryanair.com for 3-400 kroner.
Pictures will come soon.

Hello Leif (Hej Leif).

This weekend i bought a pair og K2 s9500.

All i can say is that the soun great, and it´s the most nice looking
loudspeakers i have ever seen.

I power the K2 with two NAD S200 ampfilters, one for lower band
and one for upper band.

The seccond step for me is to rebuild my listeningroom, and
make some acoustically improvements..

Pictures to come

Lucky you!
Can I ask you how much you had to pay?
These ones are for sale for about 200.000,-
But I think that is a bit much. I guess one can be lucky and get them for a smaller amount. The shopkeeper had been unfortunate enough to get a scratch on one of the sides. Not a big scratch, but enough to get a good discount.
I am exited to see the pictures.

And congratulations!!!

Hi Niklas

That's great news.
My first question - the next time you're poking around in the guts of your speakers - can you try to figure out what type/make of capacitors are used in your high-end K2 product ?

Thanks <> Earl K :)

A couple of close-up pictures of the networks would be nice too :)

I took some few pictures today of the new K2`s
But can not get them attached on this page.
I am not good with that photo thing, and neither on the computer. The problem is that the pictures is too big files to get them on this page. max allowed here is 160000 bytes, while mine pictures is 700000 and so on.
There is at least two ways to fix that problem:
1: Those of you that want to see the pictures, send a mail to me.
2: Tell me (in a very very simple way) how to reduce the size of the pictures.

I'd be happy to downsize your pics and then post them for you if you want.
Email the pics to KZL Audio ([email protected]) .
I'm on a job site all day tomorrow ( Monday ) - I'll post the pics when I get home if they are waiting for me in my email box .

Contratulations on your purchase Niklas!

I heard the K2 S9800s at CES, Las Vegas last January, and they sounded great!

According to GT of JBL they were designed for the Japanese market - and that means a very extended high-end, and a rolled-off low-end. And, yes, the high-end is very glassy, without being harsh. But I was also impressed with the low-end. If it's rolled-off, it's subtle. The 9800 had a strong, tight response for the lower range of the pop-jazz that they used for the demo.

I'm a big fan of the 4430 and 4435. To me the 9800 is like the ultimate evolution of the 4430. It extends the high-end with the additional tweeter, uses a more socially acceptable shape for the mid-highs, and employs an even stronger bass driver than the 2235H. All that and a state of the art cabinet and network. Once placed correctly in your room (to optimize the bass), I expect that you will enjoy them greatly for years and years to come.

Hi

Here's one the 5 pics that Leif sent me for downsizing. I really like this closeup because it reveals some of the H9800 horn detail that I've being wondering about. Thanks Leif !
