How favorably will the L19's compare? What other monitors under $200 will compare will either of these that are less than 19" tall and 12" wide?

I believe you have to have L19A's to match the ferrite drivers in the 4301B. The plain L19 uses alnico drivers.

is there much of a difference in the crossover?

is there much of a difference in the crossover?Dig down in this thread, (message 14), for the L19 crossover info: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=5784

JBL should have the 4301 info at their pro site.

JBL should have the 4301 (crossover) info at their pro site.3103, here: http://www.jblproservice.com/navigation/Network%20Schematics.html

It appears both the L19 and L19A both use the LE-26 for HF, the same as the 4301B, while the plain 4301 uses the LE-25 for HF. And again - the difference in LF between older and newer versions is alnico and ferrite.

And again - the difference in LF between older and newer versions is alnico and ferrite. And, in the ferrite series there are engineering differences, too, as reflected in the Thiele-Small parameters.

Bo,

If those are the ones in your shop they are a step up on the L100 in many ways..all that out of a small cabinet makes them sweet.

I heard the ones in Bo's shop and they are very impressive for the size and mint I might add.

In looking at this thread, the 116A (L19 woofer) and 116H (4301B woofer, inverted dome) have identical parameters, which is quite a fluke, as the drivers look much different from each other. They share the exact same tweeter. The crossover is nearly identical with the 4301B a 16.5uF and L19 a 18uF cap on the woofer. Cabinets look very similar in volume (within 5% volume-wise), but of different dimensions. Why isn't the 116H woofer, then, listed as a replacement for the 116A in the L19's crossover schematic sheet? Is it due solely for cosmetics? I have an L19 w/o woofers and was thinking about dropping in a pair of 116H from my beat pair of 4301B. I should expect identical sound, right?

Well, inspecting both crossovers, there is a 10uF (electrolytic) on the L19 crossover, as well as two coils and a film cap of unknown capacitance. A sand resistor, too. The 4301B has two film caps, no electros. Strange about the 10uF, the L19 network referenced on this site does not include a 10uF cap in the network.

No biggie, the designer often starts from scratch with every model... I went over these differences when this forum first started ten years ago.

The 116A and 116H were acoustically equivalent and both used the C8R116A recone kit.

I personally consider the 4301B a JBL hallmark. Greater by far than the sum of its parts.
