I recently aquired a pair of EV12-2 speakers at a garage sale. They sound pretty decent, and the componets appear to be in excellant shape. The cabnets are rough to say the least. They look like they may have been hanging in a bar or something. There are holes drilled in them, and the veneer is peeling. I have decided to keep them, and build some new cabnets for them. The present cabnets seem a little on the small side, considering the size of the drivers. They are also very bland looking. I have decided that I would like to give them a "vintage" look, somewhere along the lines of the JBL C-38. I know that JBL has put out some excellant books on speaker building, but I have been unable to find them. Does anyone know if there is a formula for determing the optium size of speaker enclosures? The spakers are 2-way, 12 inch drivers with ported cabnets. The ports are 1 3/4 in dia. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if there is a formula for determing the optium size of speaker enclosures? There is both freeware (WinISD at http://www.linearteam.dk/) and BassBox Pro (through http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=3). You will need to find your woofer's Thiele-Small parameters in those programs for them to work with your specific drivers.
