2345´s and 2370´s

Hi, what do You think of using 2345's and 2370´s with 2234´s and 2404´s on a not very high end stereo?, I used a bunch for PA and SR, but are they up to it?

I have the 2370. They sound very good with the 2425. IIRC, the 2345s were metal and some say they color the sound.

I'm guessing Alex really means 2470, the driver often found on the 2345 horn mounted on a 4560 for PA. This driver is the equivalent of the LE85/2420, except it originally used a phenolic diaphragm. Phenolic's said to be the best for speech clarity at volume; it's response drops like a stone at about 9k. There are some who like the phenolic diaphragm for music midrange. The combination of the 2345 with the phenolic 2470 might actually be ok for that. The tweeter up top would naturally make up for the lack of high end in the midhorn.

:) Dave: Thanks, I did mean the 2370 horn, which I have used for PA with 2425´s, and I see some guys here using ém at home, I was wandering about the long term "impression", after all, some guys love the big 1505 Altecs, but I don´t really care for them, except they do look cool.

I think Zilch has endorsed them as well... personally I dislike them... I love horns but not horn sound. Now if you are talking about an equalized PA system, that's different. I suppose they are OK for that.

I ran 2370's with LE85's and then 2425H's for awhile. They didn't cut it in my living room. Fine for SR though. I sold mine to a garage band.

I think Zilch has endorsed them as well....I abandoned them fairly early on, 'cause I couldn't get decent VHF out of them. Vertical field was too narrow up there, too. Might be OK for midrange.

Still have some in my 4691B party speakers. They just do "LOUD" in those, mostly.... :D

Might be OK for midrange.Not for me... that's the part I don't like... they have a very horn like signature. As you said, they do get loud and are great if you need that in a small package and sonic purity is secondary.

I have L-300s in homebuilt cabinets for front channels. I bought a klipsch reference 64 II and that $1200 was a real waste. The system is better on clear dialogue with the l-300s alone. Since seating is along sides of the room not on centerline it would be advantageous to have a center channel. Any suggestions?

Well ... you post a request for Center Channel suggestions in a thread from 2005 -
Poor zilch passed on a few years ago so he won't be replying ...

I suggest you start a NEW THREAD for L300 & similar-voiced speakers
and ask THEM what their experience is with channel speakers.
It sounds like for you, phantom center is not an option, so I'd specify that fact.

When I had 4341 monitors as LF & RF speakers in a 5.1 system, I got a JBL LC2 center -
It wasn't perfectly matched, tonally, but it had a good sound and dialog was nice and clean for TV and movies.
And was somewhat reasonably priced (I got one at a close-out/sale price for under $500).

I preferred the "beech" color, which is rare, but the black ash ones are real common.
It can even be wall mounted.
