I recently purchased a set of 2420 drivers which are labeled 16 ohms. They measure 7.09 ohms and 6.9 ohms. When I measure a set of my original LE85's they are labeled 8 ohms and measure 7.9 and 7.8 respectively. Can anyone tell me, is this right? Are these within JBL specs. Does it sound like the diaphrams have been changed on the 2420's?

I would appreciate any info you can give

Thanks

LE-85s and 2420s are identical regardless of what's on the label.

If the DCR is close to 8 ohms they are 16 Ohms. The 8 ohm DCR's are more like 3-4 ohms.

I will second what Rob has just said.

True, I was thinking as manufactured as opposed to with a replacement dia. New, both used the same diaphragm. D8R2421, D8R2425 (or other) dia could be installed in a 2420 to make it an 8 ohm unit.

Better to go with the measurement as suggested, not the marking.

All LE85s are nominally around 12 ohms. Some are labeled 8 ohms and others 16 ohms. JBL has been a bit free with it's impedance ratings on several models. The 2420 is the same driver with the same diaphragm as the LE85. The 2421 came in two versions. 2421A which was 8 ohms and the 2421B which was 16 ohms. The 2421B diaphragm is the correct replacement diaphragm for all 2420s and LE85s.
