What is that?

I received a vintage s/s analog tuner in the mail today, and it has a switch on the back labeled: FM De-Emphasis 25us/75us. Thats not exactly what it says...the u has a tail, I'm sure someone knows what I mean.

Anyway what does it do?

The normal position has a normal response(filter), with the higher de-emphasis(less filtering on HF section) you could run it through a Dolby noise reduction unit if desired.

The funny looking "u" is abreviation for "micro" as in micro seconds if I recall correctly.

that was my first thought u is for micro seconds!
but i do remember pulling apart many radio`s in my youth and some do have a switch like that on the inside or back to change zones if you take it to a diffrent country
easy way to tell put it on a station and flick the switch
