JBL 4344 (sort of)

Hi Guys

Haven't posted in a while. Got a wild hair and decided to finally make the 4344 boxes that were in the Building the 4344/4345 thread. Here is a pic of the final boxes. I do plan to get all the right components eventually. I have a set of LE85s (waiting for a bank loan to buy the 2121 diaphrams), a set of 2235Hs and a 2123h ( no 2122 cone kits till around December). So while waiting decided to try a hodgepoge of drivers to see what they would sound like.

I have the 2225Hs tuned to 40hz (port tubes are not glued in, for a quick change to the 2235s. The midrange is a LE10A-1, without the aquaplas, and I am using 2470s got the highs. Also to the rear of the speakers are the crossovers using the design from Giskard (where ever he is).

It doesn't sound bad, boosted the bass at the 40hz about 4 decibals.

Any way will try to keep you all posted as things progress.

Those look nice! Looks like you build your boxes just like mine. What did you brace with?? Wait till you load in the 2235's. Get some nice low end out of them for sure. I use the same crossover. Which version you build?????

I used 2X3s. (1) mid ways on the top and bottom. (3) on each side, slightly staggered and (2) on the back panel.

As far as the crossover I used a passive verson of Giskards crossovers with the below iteration. Sounds great. Hope he won't mind me using his illustration. I don't know how to link back to the post it was in.

White 4400,s at the top of the rack? Al has good taste in equalization!

The amp in the background is a Threshold Stasis II amp. I am a big fan of Nelson Pass and his designs. Not only is Nelson a master of amplification, but his willingness to share knowledge with us DIY folks makes him A1 in my book. I have several amps but always keep coming back to the Threshold. I do want to upgrade to one of the current Pass designs as soon as I get the money.

As far as the 4400s they are some of the best equalisers for the money. As most of us know the studio monitors are rarely plug and play. The whites are extremely accurate without major degradation of the signal. The only other equalizer that I would like to try are Klark Tekniks. Alas, so much gear and so little money.
