As everyone has been so helpful in my latest speaker change-out project, I though a few pictures may be in order.

Thanks,
Todd

This first shows my L/R channels. They currently include a D130 reconed as a 130A, LE175/HL-91, 075 (pro-version), N1200, and N8000. The woofers will be changed for 2205s reconed as 2235s. When I got the cabinets (speakers were previously in University cabinets), they were in very poor shape. One had the entire lower front broken away and missing. I fixed and filled them, rounded the edges smooth, and we refinished them in a faux-marble to go with our décor. I made new grill frames out of ¾” square wood and stretched black grill cloth over them.

The center speaker is a three chambered cabinet that houses the center channel speaker and a subwoofer. (I also use a Sunfire Signiature subwoofer.) When listening to music, I can flip a switch on the cabinet and both 15s are routed to the dBx subwoofer amp.

The outer chambers are 4 cu ft and house the woofers. The center chamber is 2 cu ft and vented to the exterior and the two outer chambers. The twin chamber design really smoothes out the impedance curve. The outer cabinets are tuned to 34 Hz and the bass response is on par with and a good match for the L200 cabinets. The inner chamber is roughly twice this frequency. The components include the two “real“ 130As, LE175/extended HL-87 (same length as HL-91), 075, N1200, N8000 (pro version). Again, the woofers will soon be changed to 2205/2235s.

The alnico components were mounted low in the cabinet to reduce magnetic interference with my table top 45” CRT that used to sit on it. Now, my 78” Stewart screen sits on it on a stand I had made so magnetism is not currently an issue.

These pics won’t last. They are being hosted on a web site that is devoted to large-scale trains; one of my other hobbies. The link will take you to pics of my front yard garden railroad, if that’s of interest to you.

- I'm always impressed when people are able to recycle these classics back into the parlor .

Hah! It came from the selection offered on this site. Just seemed appropriate given the name. Kind of clever in a horrible way!
