Subwoofer Comparison: 4 2235 Vs a pair of JBL 1500

I have the option of building either type for my HT. The design criteria is

20hz spl, over all lowest possible distortion and smooth response. The crossover point is between ~50 to 100 hz.



The amp I'm considering is from part express, MASH 500watt into 4ohms.



BTW, I will use passive radiators for both systems. Each passive have a P-P

excursion of 2". The 2235 system will use four .



Which of the two systems would meet the above criteria?

Do you mean the W1500, Sub1500, 1500Al or 1500FE?

For your application W1500 and Sub1500 are better. The W1500 is not yet available. The Sub1500 is no longer available.

:) In any choice, please check the final nominal impedance presented to the amp, they do not like it below 4 ohms, and they are more stable at 8 ohms, so it looks like You are looking at multiple 500W or one 1000W at least.

I tried a single 2235 using a 6cf box tuned to ~25hz, It was ok. I replaced the port with a passive there was big different in low freq dynamic's.

You will probably need at least 4 of those to get enough clean power at 20hz.

I have a high end 300WPC Mos-Fet amp and my dual SUB1500's eat it up and spit it out.

Just my opinion.

The W1500H is the woofer used in the new sub for the Project Array Series.

It is similar to the Sub1500. Looks identical from the front, but has a different frame and it's specs are slightly different. Among other things it is an 8 ohm woofer instead of being a 4 ohm unit.

Seemed reasonable to assume it was a 15 inch woofer - Thanks for the confirmation but what I should have written is "what are the _specs_ of the W1500" ! And price and availability ?

why would that be the case?

I don't think that they can operate in a push pull arrangement
