if the picture above is the one you're talking about, ( the one you click on to enter the forum), then yes that is Richard Boone, known as Paladin in the 50's and 60's TV show.

Yep, that's the one. Thanks Norm BTW, when I was a kid for the longest time I though "Wire" was his first name!.

Same reaction here. The first thing I noticed after the pipe. A time of quality in many things man-made in that picture. Also, a quality in that mind of Mr. Goodman's that should not be forgotten.

The man on the left in the first picture is Ray Pepe. He was JBL's Director of Marketing (or some similar title) from the late 1950s through most of the 1960s. These celebrity endorsements, or at least associations, were part of his never ending quest to create an image of JBL as the premium quality product in the mind of the public. Hal Cox, who knew him well, told me that Mr. Pepe had a great deal to do with JBL's success and rise to prominence during that period.

Check out the "Cap Toe" shoes on Benny with the "Required" shinier toe. It brings back memories of my old High School Daze. Floorshiem, Regals, or Stacey Adams, were the shoes of choice for the "Well Dressed" student back then...

Interestingly, this man was identified as Richard Ranger in another ad for the Paragon ...although I've never seen Ranger, looks like Benny to me.

Anyone seen that ad?

It's not an ad and its mislabelled. The picture was a publicity shot that I found in a folder in JBL's archive. There was a reference in the file to Richard Ranger and I assumed that the picture was of him. Therefore, I captioned the photo on our site as identifying him. Just recently, someone pointed out that this was definitely not Richard Ranger, but rather Benny Goodman. I subsequently found a picture of Ranger and confirmed that it was not him and was in fact Goodman.
