Is there any acoustic difference between 8-ohm versions of the above?

Are any differences between them cosmetic only?

Is there a reproduction foam ring available?

You know, I did search the first time but I had to have keyed in something wrong. I was already to pipe up that there wasn't anything out there but....

:homer:

(Insert "Doh!" here.)

How about comments on the differences between versions?

You forgot
LE-25, LE-25-3,and last but not leastLE-25-5.Here goes

LE-25 went into L25,L45A,L45B,L71,L71A,L88A,L88P L88P-A,L100A,4311,4311A
LE-25-1 went into L26,L36
LE-25-2 Went into L16,R82,R103,R123,r133,4301,4301E,4311B,4312
LE-25-3 went into L120
LE-25-4 went into L26A,L36A
LE25-5 went into L120A.
I may have missed a couple, but I think it was always the same HF just with the different hpyphonated number depicting different series, models etc.
So don't beat your self up

A couple of notes:

- There was also the LE26, which is for all intents and purposes, an LE25-2 with a plastic "trim ring" instead of the foam ring. Used in the L19, among others.

- I've personally seen LE25-2s installed in L100s, that were purported to not have been touched since new (ie, they seem to have come in L100A's here and there).

- I've also seen LE25 (no suffix) units that came out of L26s. Same conditions as the L100A's mentioned above.

Personally, I believe, that at least at a few times, JBL "used what they had" to put together systems, when they needed to... hence, the odd units showing up in a pair of a different model than normal. Since there's no notable acoustic difference I've seen/measured between any of them beyond POSSIBLY a half-dB or 1 dB difference in sensitivity, tops (easily tuned out with the L-pad level controls), I can see why that would have been a quite reasonable production decision...

Regards,
Gordon.

Likely, an accurate assessment.

I am restoring a set of Primas and the L25s in there have smashed-in centers and rotted, open-cell foam rings. Fairly often on eBay, good singles come up and don't go for much. I'll be patient and get them onesie, twosie over the winter.
