jbl 2226h recone with jbl 2235h

Hello my name is gene. can I take a jbl 2226h frame and have it recone with a jbl 2235h cone kit and get the same low bass frequency?. The next question, If this is possible can I put this woofer in a jbl L 250 cabinet? also about 1 month ago some one place an ad on this site that read big sale on jbl in beltsville md. Well I went there today 09/03/05 they had 8 jbl 2226h drivers .3 of them were recone with jbl e140 cone. all woofers are in great shape.they also had 1 jbl 4311b/one 4375stage speaker . thanks gene:blink:

You can't expect to recone a 2226H and recone it with a 2235 or E140 kit....won't work...they are completely different drivers. The woofer in an L250 is an LE14H-1 which is a smaller frame than the 2226H....so I would be very suspect of the deal.

also, the 2226 and 2235 are 15" woofers and the LE14H-1 in the 250 is a 14"

Another thing to remember between these two drivers is that they are two different generations of motor. The 2235 had the older 4" motor with the 0.057" gap. The 2226 uses the Vented Gap Cooling Motor with the 0.069" gap. If you want 2235's, snatch up some old blown 2225's and have them re-coned to 2235.

You are probably right Zach, but what would really have happened if you used the 2226 motor? There is a difference between the two motors flux, 1.2T (Tesla) for the 2235 and a lower flux for the 2226 (1.0T). What would be the result if dropping in a 2235 cone-kit in a 2226 motor? Probably it would be a woofer with a slightly lower free air resonance, maybe 18Hz, (but this is only true if the top plate of the two motors have the same thickness, otherwise not), but this speaker could maybe handle a much higher power due to the 2226 motors ability to better cool down the vc. What would finally be the sound when installed in a cabinet ? Well that question isnt a one I can answer.:D

(1) the vented gap motors have a ridge that would HIT the mass ring.
(2) the gaps would NOT be centered due to the VERY different geometries.
(3) HELLO a wider gap means less flux so every parameter would be different.

If your are deadset on a vented gap subwoof, get a 2227 and recone it with the ME150H kit but since that is a FSO option, also a NO.

But I'm sure someone on that side of the pond with experience putting volvo engines and VW transmissions into a mini would take on the task..;)
