Hello,

I've just purchased a large driver which was said to be a JBL 2440. It has been repainted and there is no label in the rectangular depression space on the back. It is 7" in diameter, 5 1/4" deep and weighs 24 1/2 lbs. It has a 2" throat and 4 holes for mounting the horn. The one-piece screw-type terminal connector is mounted on a bevelled edge rather than what I've seen in most pictures, as a shelf and there are + and - clearly marked in the metal casting. It is not the usual JBL spring type.

Looking through JBL pictures of various vintages of the 2440/375 models, I haven't seen one with these details.

And... any advice on opening it up to look for markings inside would be welcome.

Thanks,
Tim

Hello
Your driver may have been a special oem model for Meyer sound or was modified
at Meyer. They would modifiy and tweek 2441 drivers for their own cabinets. Take a picture of the diaphragm for us to take a look at.

It may just be reflectionsfrom the camera flash but it kinda looks like a cracked or shifted throat.
