Theses beautiful dupleix speakers have sensitivity (100 db ! ) and transcients of exception cause of component's quality.
Theses are a woofer "416" type + the famous "806-8A" compression driver in the middle ! Technical principle is the same as the famous "604" and "605" but with a "dome horn" (like Tannoy) in the center in place of the "multicell horn".
They are in perfect shape and sold with their original crossover which cut in 12 db / oct at 1000 Hz. All is therefore PERFECTLY PHASED ! You've just to put it in a box tuned to 30 Hz (fs = 25 Hz) and send a few audiphile's watts to get a so big sound.........Personnally i think that the association with a "supertweeter" like 2405 (=077) beyond 10000 Hz give perfect homogeneity and spatial sensations.
About the shipping they will be fixed on a planck to protect the cone. They're located in France.
Don't hesitate to ask about questions, spec or pics.

You recommend a cabinet tuned to 30 hz for the 617-8H. What volume would this enclosure be and the diameter and length of the duct, assuming that you have built such an enclosure. Thank You.

Hi Rex,
theses are 616 (15') not 617 (12'). I have one 617-8A (which is a very nice speaker too) in a little box : it's my personnal wedge monitor cause i'm musician.
In fact, i've never found exact thiele / small parameters for theses (and i'm interested cause i have 2 pairs.......;) It was just a try in my father's big sub boxes (240 litres tuned to 30 hz with one 2234H). It was very good with just a little lack in the extrems high. So we tried with 2405 and their passive crossover (8000 hz 12 db) and then.......i decided to keep a pair for myself ;) one day maybe enough time to built the boxes.....
i don't remember the exact ducts, but next week i'm going to my father's home.........
Best regards

Thanks for taking the time to respond. We have very similar situations. T/S specs were not published at the time the 616's were made, so are impossible to come by, without measuring. Which I am not equipped to do. I, as you, have not built enclosures but have had mine temporarily mounted in a pair of 226 liter JBL cabinets. They are very good speakers and can imagine them to be amazing in the correct enclosure.
I also have a nos pair of 617's that I have never removed from their cartons, so many speakers, so little time :)
Regards!

Hi Rex,
yes ! similar situations............;)
226 Litres are nice boxes too ! are they PA boxes or studio ones ? or do you know which frequency they're tuned ?
And you know, measurements are great tool ! (i'm using spectralab + behringer mic), but really difficult in low frequencies especially cause of rooms problems...........
Best regards.

The enclosures are the 4648-A cabinets from JBL's Cinema line of Professional reinforcement speakers. Sorry, I don't know what these enclosures are tuned to but my guess would be around 45 Hz. Below is a little background on the 616-8A from Jim D from the Altec Users Forum. Hope it is enlightening.
The 616 was designed by ex JBL designer Bart Locanthi in his short tenure at ALTEC. It has a 4" voice coil, uses the same frame as the 411 woofer and is of a flatter cone style than the traditional deep cone ALTECs. The basket has identical topology as the classic JBLs. The cone is reputed to be similar to the JBL LE-15/2205. The driver is coupled to the cone with a short expodential horn that uses the cone for its last expansion. HF pattern narrows somewhat with frequency. The unit was designed for the first MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Quite a few are still in service and the unit has a nice full sound. From my knowledge, none have ever been T/S measured. It works well in 6-10 cubic feet box. Jim
