Apart from the visual and mounting diffs between the above drivers, considering equal impedances, are they sonically different?

Well that's a debate if ever I saw one. For what its worth I am using 2416's and a 2425 in my set-up. The 2425 is in the center channel speaker. They are on different horn set-ups so off axis they are very different aside from that I could not swear I could tell them apart. Sound awful close to me. If there is one it's subtle. I have 2418's but not up and running and have not compared them to the 2416/2425. One thing about the 2426 and 2416 with the thread on adaptor. They can take any JBL 1" horn either thread on or with the 3 bolt patern. The 2418 cannot. It will only take a thread on horn like the 2373/2342. You can't get the adapter plate to work on it for the vintage horns like the 2307. Just a heads up if you plan on trying the vintage horns at a latter date.

How did you fix the 2416H-1 to the 2344??
Is there an adapter?
Please explain. Evtl. you have a picture?

There is a thread on adapter that you can get from JBL Pro. So all I did was buy the adapter and gaskets. It comes with the 2426 and screws on the shout. Part number is 68665 There are also 2 gaskets you need. One between the driver and the adapter the other for the horn they are 68670 and 68666. The adapter comes with none. All this is available on the Pro Site in the online PDF's. Just go into the Technical Manual folder on the Support Info Page . They have them well hidden in the Discrete Sales Folder and look at the 2426. Lots of good information in that folder. Especially the mechanical drawings on the second page of the files.

Hey is there really nobody which can explain Alex and me the difference between an 2416 and an 2425/2426.
I've heard somewhere that the 2416 is just a "cheaper" 2425:confused:
Come on Giskard.....
You know it:help:

Yeah that's what I heard too.
I first became aware of it in the 4425.

There are 2 versions of the 2425 on with a "snout" like the 2416 and the other with a solid front which looks like a 2426 except the horn adapter plate cannot come off. I heard the same thing. Ie same phase plug same diaphram.

The 2416 deffinitely looks cheaper than a 2426, but in manufacturing, really, it saves JBL very little compared with what they charge; Maybe they are trying to compete with Atlas.

Hey guys - the 2416 / 17 / 18 seem to be a lower **thermal** powered version of the standard 1.75 dia ( 2425/2426/etc ) small format driver. I've seen many of these get cooked from distorted canned ( and live ) music where the 2425 types survive..
The integral rear cap has a very small space for heat to escape where the 2425 has a lot!
I have installed both in my bench speaker ( 4425 ) and the difference is negligable. However this is only 2ft from listening position and is right on axis so the horn level needs to be backed way off anyways.
Why JBL has both is a mystery since the diaphram prices are nearly the same...?

I have 2418's but not up and running and have not compared them to the 2416/2425. Rob:)
did you manage to try it?
I would appreciate to hear your impression on the 2418.

I have been messing with them but no real time. I have them on 2342's at the moment and will be using them to make a pair or surrounds using 2118H's as the bass drivers. Have you heard the new Eons?? They use them there.

I recently picked up a little pair of MR922's for PA - they use the 2418H for HF. They sound fine - unfortunatly, I don't have anything else to compare them with...
