In the spec sheets of the 4425, JBL write that they used a "All Pass Crossover Network".
What exactly means that?

Where can I get the Audio Eng. Soc. Article about it (vol28 pp575-584)?

Does anybody have the Audio Eng. Soc. Article about Bi-Radial monitor loudspeaker design (vol31 No. 6 June 1983)?

Thanks for help

D'oh! My bad for posting links to a pay site :D

I just thought posting the links to their site might be worthwhile since that is the source.

Any major Library should have the entire set anyway...

If you don't already have this one, you might find it helpful as well:

It was a good idea and worthwhile. It is a good idea to look at the tech notes. They are a very good references and point the way with the referenced AES papers.

So what ever happened with the DMS-1?? It seems to be a milestone no one wanted or appreciated. Anyone actually hear a pair??

Rob :)

I read a comment about the DMS-1 in another thread here that went something like, "You don't want to know what the JBL engineers really thought of the DMS-1."

Not certain what was meant by this comment; perhaps :barf:?

I think it was by a former employee of JBL, or maybe Giskard or Don McRitchie?

Maybe someone will comment on the DMS-1 here. I am curious myself. Ever since I saw 4 JBL 1400ND woofers for sale in a Pawn Shop in Austin a few years ago and researched their origins...

I know this is about a year late ... You can visit http://www.nuhertz.com/ and download Filter Free which will Synthesize the Filter in passive or active or other to show you what it's all about. The free version won't do over 3 stages so you can't align a tweeter as you need more stages, but you can start with what it gives you, and move over the LTSpice for the remainder.

edit: The All-Pass filter is call the "Delay" filter in Filter Free.... as that is what it does; provides time alignment.
