I was under the impression the M12 kit used an LE5-2 alnico magnet driver. I recently found an L-88P Owner's Manual. It describes the driver this way:

Nominal diameter: 5 Inches
Voice coil: 7/8 Inch, edge wound copper ribbon
Magnet assembly: 2.75 pounds
Flux density: 16,500 gauss
EIA sensitivity: 46 dB

From information I found on this forum, the LE5-2 does NOT use edgewound ribbon wire. The picture in the manual is very poor with no detail.

Is this a special version of the LE5-2?

Thanks,
John Lovda

Thanks.

Somewhere on this forum is a jpg spreadsheet listing all of the LE5 variants with details such what systems they were used in, etc. If I recall, the LE5-2 was not shown as having a ribbon wire voicecoil. I thought only the "odd" versions did. Maybe that was just an omission.

"For reasons not very well understood, there are two versions of the LE5-2, the round wire version and the ribbon wire version. Just knowing the model number doesn't help. Later versions of the LE5-2 were round wire only and the LE5-3 became the ribbon wire version."
