View Full Version : What should I do next?

Hi,

Right now I am wondering what to do next. I have a number of JBL Pro drivers, horns and components.

I am only using a 2420 / 2344A combination with an 8" kevlar bass/mid and I am very happy with the setup.

besides those, I have pairs of a horns/lens/2420 combi and a 2342/2416 combi and 2235 and 2123 lying around and I can buy a 2344A/2426 combi.

So I have the following possibilities:
- buy a pair of 4435 that have been offered to me
- buy another pair of 2344A with new 2426 drivers
- build a 2 way with the pair of reconed 2235 I have and the 2344A horns
- build a 3 way with the reconed 2235, 2123 and 2344A
- rebuilt my current system of kevlar 8" and 2344A with the 2342 horns I have [from the 4425 speaker] so the smaller horns make a nice integrated system
- sell al my spares?
- trade them for the "ultimate drivers", whatever those are?
- should I get 2" driver/horn combinations? and build a system from that?
- do something completely different?

I do not have much time, and I like designing and building crossovers myself. But I think I am by far not as persistent as many of you here on this forum.

Choices.... Any suggestions? I really don't know, maybe I should just stick with what I'm happy with now.

thanks, Frank

My opinion--by all means, buy the pair of 4435's

Your kevlars may mate better with the 2342/2416. Build L200t3 crossovers to run them.

Nothing plays with 2344A/2420/2426 better than 2235. Build B380 boxes for the 2235's (plans in library here) and N3134 networks (documented in this forum). If you decide to go another direction in the future, you'll have a pair of VERY competent subs.

Find empty L200's if you want to avoid box building and have really nice packages for the full system. L220/L222's will work, too.

I'm gonna disagree with Dave. Buying 4435's is not nearly as much fun. BUT, there's no harm in doing THAT as well. :D

I don't know about that 2123's match-up real nice with it.

Watchin' for a report on the results maybe soon.... :)Well... you won't see any results posted publicly as the project is heading towards one-of-a-kind status and won't be clonable by DIY folks. I'm sure stock LE14H-x's and stock 2344A/242x drivers could be made to work together just fine but that isn't where I ended up heading as of last week.

I'm sure the 2235H comment was taken out of context. ;)

Frank,

The limiting factor is the 2426/2344. You need to explore a better top end and bass. Your not going to get anymore while that is still in there, good as it is it's a compromise.

Keep the 2123 for mids and try one of the new drivers Zilch has been experimenting with along with his crossover and PT horns. Alternatively try a 2397/Westlake clone with a 4 inch driver. Add a 2405 or a cat's eye for that bit of sparkle you are missing!

Find a 2234 pair or eq one for the bottom end.

Failing that go for an all cone affair like a L250Ti, try an LE14 or a 2234 eq'd, maybe keep the 2123 o a 2118, a 104H and an 044, bi amp the whole mess.
If you can manage it try 1st order crossovers.
