Hello all...

I think being somewhat anonymous is fine...and a given...on the internet...but how about everyone at least give your general global position. I'm in Southern California. It's cool to know what part of the earth we're communicating with and how Lansing Heritage fits in where you are. I don't mean you should to give your street address, but a country, state, city,etc..whatever you're comfy with. Any thoughts on this?

Respectful thanks,

Edgewound

I agree, of course. I'm always pleading with members to enable location display in their profiles. Just click "User CP," above, to do it.

Norway, Casablanca, Germany, Guadalajara, "Deep South," Singapore, Melbourne, Tokyo....

This place be GLOBAL!

Zilch....

I spent many family trips going to Berkeley in my younger days...wow the late 1960's/early 70's were pretty wild....as my paternal grandparents lived on Delaware street just a few blocks from UC Berkeley....very cool and somewhat funky town...I still go by occasionally to see the old neighborhood when in the "real" Bay area. I have late relatives in the "Chapel of the Chimes"....very peaceful place.

Well, most of you will never know my home town in Germany, Wuerzburg.

But you should know Frankfurt and you should know Bavaria, right?

So I'm living 100km west of Frankfurt which is Northern Bavaria! But also keep in mind that the best beer comes not from Bavaria but from northern Germany. :duck:

But I have seen the best JBL deals do seem to be on the West cost though:(

I'm in San Antonio Texas. It's not exactly an audio mecca, but being an audio island of sorts has it's work arounds. We have audio meets about every two months rotating between San Antonio, Houston, Dallas/FortWorth, Austin and a few other small towns around. We are like moths to a flame, the audio light. If you're ever in the area (big tourist town - The Alamo, The River Walk, Sea World, Fiesta Texas...) feel free to drop me an email and see if you can stop by me casa for some audio geek speak.

Hello everyone!
I'm in Tokyo, Japan. Anybody been here?
Over here, it's relatively easy to find 43xx's, but not 250Ti's or L300's, and certainly not the Performance series. Prices for the vintage stuff are, well, pricey, to say the least! One thing for sure is that no audio store in this country will be caught not having a JBL!

Oh yeah, San Pedro is in the Harbor Area of Los Angeles, next to Long Beach.

LA is great for its cultural diversity, climate, and food. It's also great for the presence of Harman International's Northridge facility, home to JBL, Revel, and others. There are used JBL's aplenty in the area, though new dealers are as scarce as the rest of the US. I had to get my Performance Series set up from NY state!

Nathan's hot dogs are great, but I prefer the Vienna Beef dogs from Chicago when I can get them. Both are hard to come by out here. :(

In this part of the world you get used to distances, long distances. Most interesting stuff are far away. E.g. to get my Sovereign's I had to drive 4288km = 2680 miles.:D

The problem with nathans Hot Dogs is they really have to be had at Nathans in Coney Island. No other nathans is as good. This one is the Original! Then it,s up to Steves on the Boardwalk for little necks and cherrystone clams on the half shell!

On a hot saturday or Sunday afternoon, the bikinis are beautiful up there! Gotta love Coney Island!

I thought I'd re-invigorate this particular thread at the meta-physical urgings of the Zilchster, and his mission, to get all forum members, both newbie and veteran, to kindly post in their respective "User CP" to give a general geographic location of your fine existence. Yes, even if you just put a locale it would be helpful.

I use San Pedro, CA, which is pretty close, but I could've put Los Angeles, and that would have been plenty specific enough. Even SoCal would have been good enough, I suppose.

When I lived in Michigan, I probably wouldn't have put Lawrence, since no one knows where it is. I'd have picked Kalamazoo or SW Michigan.

Anyway, enough about me. Please give a useful if not specific location.

Very good. One of the lesser albums and title song from arguably the most famous musical act to come out of Winnipeg - The Guess Who. Burton Cummings grew up around Bannatyne Ave.

I have to admit that I've never been a great fan of the Guess Who. Personally, I would rather give the honour of the most famous Winnipeg musician to Neil Young since this is where he spent his formative years and began his music career. However, some purists discount him because he wasn't born here.

along with the Butterfield Blues Band at Michigan State. It was a good (but not great) concert. The girl and the accelerants were better.

I was manager of the college radio station at the time and got promo stuff from record companies all the time. I think I got the Guess Who stuff from RCA. I knew the answer as soon as I saw the street name.

OTOH, Neil Young is someone whose albums I've actually purchased and whom I've seen on numerous occasions when I've paid. :D

Hey TD, Thanks for the links to the satellite imagery. When were you at Michigan State? I was there from 80-84 while in Osteopathic Medical School and went back last year for a reunion and the Notre Dame Game (which is going to happen tomorrow too - Go Spartans!).

Very good. One of the lesser albums and title song from arguably the most famous musical act to come out of Winnipeg - The Guess Who. Burton Cummings grew up around Bannatyne Ave.

Hi Don Actually He grew up on Cathedral Ave. and also on Bannerman ave. in the North end. I am pretty sure his first apartment he had was on Bannatyne Ave. He also went to St. Johns High a block a way from where I reside. My Older Brother was in his class back then, used to have a school year book from the early 60,s and him, and my brother both looked geeky.:p

Also do not forget Randy Backman was in the guess who for a while and went on to form B.T.O.
Regardless if you like the tunes they put out ,they sold a gazillion albums:)
Most people do not know this but Randy Backman can play some great jazz guitar:applaud:
The whole B.T.O. era was 3 chord rock:D intended to get maximum radio play and fill the bank account. And it still is filling as you hear that "Taking Care Of Bussiness" Riff Pimping stuff on T.V. all the time:barf:

Hi all. Just noticed this nice information from many members.

I live in Skien, the district of Telemark, witc is often called: "Norway in miniature".

Why? Because here we have everything from the sea level (0 meters and 0 ft) to the famus? biggest high plato in Europe: Hardangervidda ut to about 1500 meters. (About 4600ft for those of you who don't speak metrichttp://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/images/icons/icon11.gif) AND we got JBL nut's like myself (Not to many left thow in my area) who takes a ferry for 16 hours, drive 1400km (figure out the miles yourself) to get a pair af 4343B's.http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/images/icons/icon6.gif

Have a nice day where ever you are in the world.

I really thought you were joking... not that the world's top predator is a joking matter.

In Norway, polar bears are completely protected and have been since 1973. On the glacial Svalbard islands, their population has rebounded from a low of about 1,000 to roughly 2,000 bears.-Bear Facts

That's Illinois, not Arizona. Like Ohio, close to the center of the world. I came from the Chicago suburb Park Ridge. Harrison Ford, Carrie Snodgrass (there's a Neil Young Connection!) and my High School bud Hillary (Rodham) Clinton. For fans of musician's musicians, another high school mate was the late and sorely missed Steve Goodman. Look him up if it doesn't ring a bell. I conned my way into clubs underage to see Muddy Waters, etc. Surrounded by all this talent, what did I do? Well, I'm just a guy, but I am hooked on monitors.

I discovered Peoria when I left home for college. Suddenly being in the midst of eight million people all the time didn't seem normal anymore, so here I am about a hundred years later, still in a town who's name is a joke to everyone else. By the way, about "Will it play in Peoria." I've heard every "learned" history of that remark, but it is probably due to Peoria being the last stop on the vaudville circuit. If you played all the way to Peoria, your act was very successful and had legs.:blah::blah: God, I'm a windbag. Sorry.
Is there a famous Peorian? You bet - Phillip Jose Farmer. Wonderful guy.
Most importantly, Peoria has EDI(Electronics Diversified), which is by most accounts a unique audio shop. It is the favorite store/place/hangout of everyone who knows it is there. People from large cities as far away as Seattle have said they wish they had as good. That includes Chicago, by the way.

Peoria is on the Illinois River, about half way between Chicago and St. Louis. My corner of the world is near the center of the image.

Quite True, maybe still so. But not for me. I have young children, and "I saw your Dad at the strip club" has a bad ring to it! Besides, I hate to go into a great store without any money. Window shopping is only frustration for me. Worse yet - I love my wife! What's next, fitting for monk's robes? Thank God I can kiss my JBL's.

Access to a strip club and vodka at 14, you are a God. I don't think I had seen a naked woman yet at that age. I've always wondered, how does a youth get into an adult venue with impunity - or is Louisiana really a different world? I have heard the name Metairie like it was Timbuktu or Krakatoa. It always sounded like either some place to serve in the French Foreign Legion, or a really tough town full of thugs. Can you tell I grew up in the midwest?
You can start laughing at me now...but what was it really like?

New Orleans, La really is a different world (especially now, but in a diff way)...

I have to admit that this was not the most upstanding strip joint in town -- it was shut down a few years after I got out of HS due to the drug sales going on inside (don't worry; it wasn't crack or meth -- just zanzibars, and various downers & uppers (all prescription medications), abliet some directly imported from Mexico....

but as I recall some of the nicest young adult girls that a 14 year old would ever want to meet worked there :smsex:

Metairie is a suburb of NOLA, and yes parts are/were dangerous to live in, due to its proximity to some bad parts of NOLA -- you see the criminals there realized that is is not worthwile to rob ppl in their neighborhoods, better to go to a more affluent area. (FYI one year in the early 90s -- NOLA was actually the murder capital of the US, per capita); but everyone packed heat, myself included, so not really a worry.

I can sum up my hometown as a great place to grow up, but a terrible place to raise 'sheltered' children. :D

but it looks like my hoetown is goign to change....

taken fro NOla.com
"Lenny Lyons, a representative of a safety equipment company based north of New Orleans in Gonazles, said he believed a successful, but different city — more oriented toward tourism — would be built, bringing prosperity to the entire region.
"I foresee a lot of changes," Lyons said. "There was a lot of violent crime. That's not going to be the case in the future."

Southern California's close; Hawai'i is closer. Both places cost too flippin' much to live, though. Florida's too darn hot and humid; south of France too expensive; how about New Zealand?

...how about New Zealand?'Ya know - New Zealand is one place I myself have really considered as a possibility for living at some time in the future. I hate to say it, but I'm getting more and more disgusted with the situation here in the U.S.. It sometimes feels like I'm living in some weird foreign country, with kingdoms and peasants and the such. People can't afford basic necessities like heating their homes while the oil industry has record profits, lifelong employees losing pensions while CEO's are retiring with record salaries and golden parachutes, a president who vows to veto a spending law if it contains a 91-11 senatorial supported provision for the banning of torture - the list goes on and on. Common sense no longer seems to be in the vernacular here,,,

Well, I never managed to race two wheels or four, at least not formally. Around here, the Peoria TT flattrack rules. I remember talking at length to Kenny Roberts in the pits after a race, before he conquered Europe. All motorcycle racers at all levels have my respect and admiration. I have also seen Dick Mann no less beat all comers going away at moto when he was at least 65, I would guess. The TT track has a vintage event with more racers than spectators, very informal and personal. I have stood on the Blue Groove and wondered at its mysteries...
My biggest hero is the late Joey Dunlop. Real road racing takes a special something I'm sure I don't posess enough of! There is a double DVD of The Road Racers and V For Victory. You have got to see this stuff. Don't miss the 16mm of an on bike camera lap on the Isle of Man mountain course at 120mph average courtesy of "Yer Maun" himself. Of course, all the Road Racers are dead.

Thanks Ducatista47. In case you don't know, the avatar is a pic from the JBL Sessions album cover from years ago. I used to have a copy of that album but has since vanished from my collection. I wish their was a CD re-issue of it, but JBL would have no reason to do so as it was brought out to demo the older vintage loudspeakers.

There used to be a sound shop in Toronto that I used to hang out at during the late 70's called The Stereo Sound Shop. It was located on Eglington Ave. just a block east of Yonge Street if anyone on this forum from the Toronto area remembers it. I used to listen to that album on the L-100's and L-200's. I couldn't afford the speakers at the time.......so I bought the album instead LOL.

Dougie

From Memory:

"Your about to hear a set of loudspeaker specifications!

Now, that's unusual, but at JBL ...."

That narrator always sounded remarkably like Leonard Nimoy to me  .

Loved the tunes on it - had a cassette copiy of to play in the car.

Living in northern Germany, the pictures will give you some impressions.
Btw. the origin of my avatars name is the name of a pub here named "Hörninger" (where I've been only once). And here hardly anybody knows what a hornloudspeaker is, they would probably assume it's a bellowing cow.

Just thought I should elaborate a little for our foreign members, and perhaps some sheltered USA city slickers;

A "Lunker" is an unusually large specimen of any commonly-pursued sportfish, the actual size of which is often exaggerated by the "Liar" that caught it. ;)

Live about 15 minutes from downtown - would not trade it for the world!

Actually, I would...just called the police on my mexican neighbor - they are playing loud music. That is usually not a problem, but it is mexican crap. Not only that, but their sound system sounds like tard. Tried to crank up my Altecs, but that did not work. Oh well, lets see if the police show up, probably not.

I know its Saturday nite, but for god sake, it's MIDNIGHT!

Other than my pesky neighbor in the back of me with the music, I love the rest of em'.

Best part of living in Phoenix is the constant stream of vintage audio.

Not as good as Oregon apparently, but hey - it's some! (SeaWolf!).

Moldyoldy,

it's good that you have done it! ;)
My online dictionary [ http://pda.leo.org ] didn't show "Lunker", so I assumed "Land of lunkers and liars" means "Land der Taugenichtse und Lügner" :dont-know (Land of scapegraces and liars) :duck:

There was some time left today and I looked around. Arkansas has a very inviting site: http://arkansas.com/. I saw a lot of beautiful places. Although they remind me of other places I've seen here, there is something that bewilders me:
Geografically Arkansas is in the height of the northern part of Africa (Casablanca ... ), Hamburg has the the geographical height (?) of Newfoundland, in other words far more north.

And I still do not know what a lunker is. In the North Sea there is other, smaller fish, Heringe, Makrelen usw.

PS: What is that big "lunker" fish?

Here's a store/restaurant I used to visit on my trips from Chicago to Kalamazoo.

http://www.lunkers.com/

Lunker has a different meaning in German.

http://www.giessereilexikon.de/index.php?id=1102&backPID=1102&tx_faq_faq=301&tx_faq_backcmd=LIST/310

In English, lunker translates from German as "pipe" more or less meaning a cavity in metal. But these guys mean Ein lunker ist ein Spielfisch, der ist groß für seine Art.

It grew out of my graduate work in literature. You can't really study the roots of English (Anglo-Saxon "Old English" which is descended from West Saxon Germanic dialects) without getting a good workout in German.

Also, my dad's (second) wife grew up in Germany and was a teenager during Hitler's time. She's much more comfortable speaking German, although my dad doesn't understand any of it. When they visit Germany, as they did for two months this summer, he says, "I don't understand a g*dd*mn thing from the time I get there until I get the h*ll out." He's a WWII veteran who "visited" North Africa, Italy, and Germany during the war, so he's still a little hard on Europe in general. Yet he married a German woman and loves her dearly.

Hi, Maron,

My Mom's family was from the Little Dixie area (Shelby County), I grew up on a farm near Macon. Used to fish the Little Salt with my Granpa when I was a kid (before the lake). Lots of arrowheads and artifacts in that area's glacial drift too.;)
