In my s8r system I want to replace the 075 / N7000 with a 077 / N8000. The N8000 was made for use with the 175 driver and I have a 375. My question is will a N8000 work "correctly" with a 375?

If you look at the 1976 Component Catalog on the site you can use the N7000.

Yes, the N7000 works, I ran them in a pair of JBL S22 loudspeakers for a few years and they were fun. (136A - 375/HL93 - 077 - LX80 - N7000)

You might also want to see what Mr. Widget has to say about mating the 077/2405 with the 375/2440. e.g. 3107 crossover.

Well guys, the following seems to be Dwights' question at hand.

My question is will a N8000 work "correctly" with a 375?

Dwight ;

- I can't see any reason why a N8000 won't work electrically ( & correctly ). Things certainly won't smoke and blow up.
If you already possess the N8000, wire it into the circuit , take a listen and maybe make some measurements.

You can download both the 3105 ( N7000 ) & the 3106 ( N8000 ) schematics from JBL at crossover schematics (http://www.jblproservice.com/navigation/Network%20Schematics.html) . You can see for yourself how similar they are in their general layout and the similarity of parts. That change you see of the inductor values helps determine the new crossover point. Aside from the conjugate resistor for the 077 in the 3106 - that's it . There's no magic "Houdini" style circuits in either making one more suitable for the 375 than the other. :spin: If a new question is posed, ie ; Will either work with the 376 / 2441 ?? - then - one would want to modify both of those circuits.

Dwight; I did a search on the N8000 topic (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=15506&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) using this sites' "under-used" search engine and you can see the results. The second "hit" is particularly helpfull - especially the graphs . :yes:

If you haven't acquired the N8000 (s) then consider the previous suggestion of purchasing a pair of 3107 crossovers from JBLs' Tent Sale (http://www.jblpro.com/Tent_Sale/sale_items.htm)
. It's meant for the 2440/375 and the 2405/077. Consider doing search for "Mr. Widget" or "3107" to get more insights . The 3107 Search (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=15755&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) relates a lot of good experience on this matter.

That's my 2 cents <> Earl

Thanks everyone, I do have the N8000 and the 077 so I guess I'll put them in and see how they sound. The reason for the 8000 is in a previous thread , 8000 crossover appeared better for the 077 than a 7000 point, so I wanted to try it without hurting anything. Thanks again!
