View Full Version : Are TR126 worth buying?

I can get a pair of JBL TR126 for $375.I have tried looking up the transducers on the JBL Pro web site and they have 2412H HF drivers. These don't seem to be very desireable and the LF are 124-67000-00X which I can't seem to find any thing about.

I thought they might be good to have around for a small gig or outdoor party.

Should I pass on these? I seem to have this "Buy anything JBL" disease that is rampant on this board.

Any opinions would be welcome, Thanks,

Don M

TR's are kinda "low end." For the same money (or less, even), you can find older but very nice Cabaret series boxes with REAL drivers in them. :p

Watch for 4628B, for example: E145, 2118, 2404. Sweet!

Or 4691B: E140, 2425 on 2370A. Loud!

More bass? 4625B: E140 alone in the same sized box.

Invert either of the others on top of 'em for MTM stacks.... :D

Zilch,

Nice looking setup... I have the Sony pre that you have in that pre I want the rest of that line (no money for that right now though).

Don,

Really dont waste your time with TR stuff. Have a little respect for your ears lol. The woofer is just a stamped steel frame useless thing. and the 2412 makes a nice paper weight.

Yeah, those are for the Church of Tutti Frutti.

Gonna use 'em to broadcast the "Call to Prayer" to the environs you see out the window there:

"Tutti frutti, oh rutti, Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Tutti frutti, oh rutti, Tutti frutti, oh rutti.
Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom!"

:p

[Startin' small. REALLY need somethin' more like Tom's theater setup....]

Thanks for the feedback.

It pains me to see that JBL really is putting out "Junk But Loud".

The ones in my avitar are my baby's 2 EV EVX155's, and an NDYM 6 horn, the subs are 2 2258's. They would be EVX 180s but those are too damn heavy. I love the 2258's. I have 2 pairs of 4691b's at the shop and they are used for everything I can manage to use them for. are those sub 1500's in the bottom boxes. I really want a pair of those. For now I have Eminence Lab 12s to use

Zilch:

nice looking gear ( I'm fond of the MTM thingy myself). What are your crossover points to the subs?

Are those sub 1500's in the bottom boxes?Yup. I did a thread on them here:

http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2731

4625B's a little "frail" for Sub1500's. ;)

What are your crossover points to the subs? They just run on the Sony sub output, like 120 Hz, I think. I've got a 5235A with 18 dB 80 Hz cards, if I need separate, and a BX63A I should try.

Gonna use the 5235A on the 4688 subwoof's sendin' me. Don't know what I'm gonna put in that, pair of E155 to start, maybe. Stock would be wimpy-weenie 2240H's. No 2242H's here, alas.... :(

I COULD make some adapters and put Sub1500's in it, maybe. I need some software that'll model bandpass boxes first, tho....

I have a pair of TR225s, not particularly impressed with them. I think the OEM 15"s are identical to some Eminence I had, but I'm not 100% sure. The TR cabinets have needed a bunch of fixer upper/reinforcement work just to survive, and I'm far from abusive to them. I got them in a deal with a Crown amp, and essentially sold the Crown for enough profit that the JBLs were maybe $200 for the pair to me, and even at that price I'm only OK with the deal.

Liked the Cabaret series I used to have, I think they had 2 x 10's and a bi-radial horn? I could be hallucinating, or confusing them with some EAWs I had. Too much exposure to the 6 x 18" EAW sub scoops I had has scrambled my memory for good.

[Shown stacked on Sub1500's in the thread linked above....]

JBL's usin' a similar configuration for their new top o' line Synthesis HT center, now. Some ideas are just plain GOOD! :p

4612B ... [Shown stacked on Sub1500's in the thread linked above....]Err...Zilch - you've got the 4628B's above the Sub1500's in your pic - you can't quite see the 4612B's, which are actually behind the 4628B's in the pic.

That settles it. When a guy doesn't know what's where, he's got too much stuff. CA law requires him to give some of it to the last two guys he did a favor for or that did a favor for him.
