View Full Version : Control 5 Woofer Revisions?

New member to the forums. I have a pair of Control 5s that I purchased in 1992 while in Korea. The tweeters, woofers and crossovers need to be replaced in both speakers. I've been in contact with Bryan Sunda @ Orange County Speaker about the replacement parts.

My question to the members here is this:

Was there a revision of the woofers sometime after 1992? I ask because my drivers are 5.5" in diameter while I have seen 6.25" and (I think) 6.5" listed in the specifications as the woofer size for the Control 5s.

So, can anyone tell me if the woofers were changed to a larger size any time in the production life of the Control 5s after 1992?

Thanks.

Welcome Scott

Call JBL Pro Tech support. The specsheet has a 6.5" woofer Can you get one out to get a part number??

The only numbers or markings on the woofer that I can find is:

101TNC

Does that help at all?

BTW, those PDF manuals are exactly the specs that confused me. My driver is definitely a 5.5" woofer.

Correct me if I am wrong but...:duck: I think JBL measured thier drivers outside frame to frame:dont-know

:hmm: Well that part number doesn't match either the techsheet of the reference chart.

They do measure across the frame. Maybe they changed part numbers?? Only one way to find out.

If they measure the frame and not the actual woofer, then I can see the 6.5" spec. I just wanted to make sure before I ordered the replacement parts only to find the woofers wouldn't fit.

Thanks.
