Hello everybody-
This is my first post! I hope "general" is the appropriate spot for a question.
I just bought an old pair of JBL's in a church garage sale for 50 bucks!
As close as I can tell from the library, they must be a pair of '66 or '67 C37's?
There was a JBL folder on the back of one. Folder is empty, but the info outside reads:
Model# D38130 Serial# 56575.
Cabinet construction is very good, probably a factory job. Looks like stained walnut veneer. Still very good condition.
I opened the back of one- There is a D130 speaker and in an upper corner, a hole approx. 4 inches. Was this a porting hole, or should it have a tweeter?
Also, if this was a "base model" speaker, can I get crossovers and tweeters?
The D130 is 16 ohm, so with a tweeter addition, what would my total resistance be? I plan to keep these and upgrade with historically correct components if possible
Any thoughts on recommended amplification? With an old school 100 watt r.m.s. amp, they sound great at 1, probably annoy the neighbors at 2!
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I know somebody must have access to archives.

The D130 was the first huge success story for JBL. It was used in a variety of systems. In the fifties it was considered a full range speaker and later it was considered an extended range speaker. I used one with a EV-T35A and a simple two pole network at 5KHz to good effect. JBL used it in the S1 system. To create the S1 you add an 075 tweeter and a N2400 network.

Here is the schematic for the N2400: http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Network%20Schematics/N2400.pdf

The 16ohms will not change when mated to a tweeter with an appropriate network. Don't let that bother you... the D130 will only need a watt or two to really let you know where the music is.

Have fun!

Thanks guys!
Please keep the info and opinions coming!
Sure does look like the '57 C37, doesn't it? All the more reason to keep 'em-
I was born in '57. Speakers weathered the years better than I did, though.

WHY DONT I EVER GET DEALS LIKE THAT? lol anyways good luck with them. They are a great box. I had a customer give me a pair of KMD speaker cabinets that he didnt want the crossovers fixed on. It turned out one of the 15's was changed to a D130 not a bad deal for free. I just never get whole speakers.

Ideas for amplification, everybody?
Minimum/ Maximum wattage?
