So far,this is mine:
L630
L112
L150
L150A
L250ti (inbound)
B380 (inbound)
Each pair I've already got is good,to my ears. The L630's were even cheap,as they were a 63 dollar ebay deal. :)
What should I try next?I've always lusted after a pair of 4311's or 4312's.
Or should I try something with horns?
The absolute best speaker sysstem I've ever heard was when I was in the military in Okinawa. There was a little bar that played jazz records, and they had a JBL system that covered 2 walls.I've always wondered what it was-a Paragon, maybe?

You need 4430's, of course.

Though, if you get a second B380, you can make yer own.

More fun than buyin' them.... :p

You DOG!!! :D

Dude, you are LOADED with JBL! :applaud:

It was a pair of Lancer 99's that got me into JBL many moons ago. I was about 15 or 16, and a friend's dad had a pair. I was using some Dynaco A-25's and AR-2AX's at the time, and I was ruined by the Lancers! It took me couple of years but I finally bought a pair of L100's, and the rest is history!

I've only gotten rid of one pair: My L100's, in 1982 when I bought my L220's. And I still wish I hadn't let go of them. BUT...I was fortunate enough just recently to hook up with the fellow I sold the L100's to, and he sold me back the L100 stands that I let him have in '82, I made new front-to rear arms for them, 2-1/2" shorter, so they would look right to use them with my 4313B's. He sold me the stands back for $25!! Those classic stands have gone for a ton on eBay! :D

4430, 4301, 6230, 2344 (waiting for a center channel project), a pair of 2220A, pair of SRX4718's, a bunch of misc loose parts all over the place.

I need more stuff. Hey its not too bad of a collection for a 22 year old. I have a ton of other stuff that isnt JBL like a Dynaco ST400 and ST120, Soundcraftsmen 800S, Pioneer RT-707, Proton D-940, EV HR120, Sony TAE 1000 ESD, and just a pile of odd ball drivers and stuff

Any chance you could take measurements of the stand parts so a person could make a set? They don't look like rocket science to make and, you are right, originals cost a bundle.

See this thread for enough dimensions to get you started:

http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4297&page=1&pp=15

There are those who say there are higher stands that work better, but I have found that these do improve the imaging of my 4313B's. It's the upward angle that does it. I found some minor discrepancies in the dimensions shown here vs. the actual stands I have, but pretty close. Also, the notch depth is missing from this illustration, the depth is 1" in all cases. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Peter

P.S. The thread shows the arms as being 2-1/16"wide. My stand's arms measure an even 2".

L96's, 250Ti's, and early L100 Centuries. A few months ago I tried to recollect what I've owned over the years and came up with something like 25 to 30 different pairs of older JBL's , not to mention rare odds and ends like a 150-4c woofer and SA600 and SA660 integrated amps.

My interest in JBL dies off after the Ti series.

Thanks Rick,

My collection consists of some "quality" and a lot of "quantity". Your collection is definitely all "quality". I own a total of 79 speakers when adding my EV pro series stuff to all the JBL gear. I shared that stat with the wifey last night... Oh, if looks could kill I'd be a dead man!

Dog: There's nothing in JBL's line that comes in a Stealth Version, at least nothing that I know of. My Sov's and a few other JBL's came with me in a package deal my wife bought into 21 years ago. All the stuff since then she has taken in stride. Remember, you can't shock them with mass multiple purchases in a short amount of time. A little here and a little there. To the uninterested party it all looks the same after a while - well almost. She obviously can see the difference between my 4350's and the L100's, but they're all speakers to her. The secret is to keep the stuff moving and never overtake what she figures is her turf in the house. Blend in and try to have your little piece of the house that is your turf, for your stuff. Is this theory making any sense??? Here's how I do it, based on the fact that there's not enough room in the house for everything I own. I always have something in storage. Right now it's my L71 Veronas, crated and safe, 4313B's while I touch up and detail them, along with a few incomplete projects that she hasn't really seen yet.

Since the living room is her turf I only have my L120 Aquarius Q's and S109 Aquarius 4's in a simple 4 channel surround setup slated for that room, for family use.

I have two sons and have some stuff ON LOAN to them in their bedrooms, as long as they take good care of it - Like my L26 pairs and L36's and Marantz 2245/2275 receivers.

Have an office in our loft and I need some tunes while working there, slaving away on the computer, following the LHS Forum, etc. Good place for a pair of my L100's, my 4311's and 4313's. It's out of sight and out of her mind - with it was about 1000 more square foot.

Since we have a fairly hugh bedroom my Sovereigns are really not in the way. I have 3/4" smoked plate glass on top of them so she can put lamps and other junk on them without risking damage (tops are near mint after 31 years). I listen to them most every evening - too bad the bedroom isn't the place to crank em up.

Then there's the family room - MY TURF. We won't even get into what's going on down there. Too much information. We'll save that for a time when you come up my way.

From all my jabber you should be able to gleen something you can add to your arsenal. Later - Rick

Dog: Try this on for size. Slated for the east wall in my Family room when overhaul is done, with my Sov II's on either side. Not enough room for the big Sovs unless I give up the 4350's and I can't do that. Remember - in the absense of Stealth Speakers one must resort to Stealth Tactics. Maybe it would help if you watched some Ninja movies.

I have been working with this game plan and it generally works. I've had all manner of bits and pieces here... I mostly dabble in custom stuff.

In answer to the title of this thread I currently have the one and only pair of factory JBLs I've ever owned.

You guys are way out of my league. :banghead: If I didn't spend so much $$$ on jet-skis, dirt bikes, and street rods I'd be hangin' with you tho.....

All I've got is four A4's (or two A2's), and four 4311 studio monitors.
http://www.mypages.iparenting.com/webs/racerxtreme/VoiceoftheTheatre.jpg

If I remember correctly, the A4's were one of the first projects that James B. Lansing worked on shortly after the Lansing Mfg. Co. became Altec-Lansing. Some of the true JBL historians would know what approx. year.
I've got a few more components to buy, but when I'm done the entire system will be loaded w/ JBL drivers.

I have had a pair of L26s since '80 or so. I got them used.

The reason I'm here on these forums is because I just picked up a pair of Cabaret 4628B speakers. They've obviously been around the block a few times but they appear to be in working condition. I don't know if they will play because my home audio gear doesn't have the correct outputs and the amp I got with the speakers has DIN inputs (again, no way to connect them). The amp is a Crown Micro-Tech 1000 and it came with two Behringer components (Composer Pro MDX-2100 and Ultragraph Pro FBQ3102) all in a handy locking carrying case.

The wife already has given me an ultimatum about the 4628Bs!

jbl collection:...I want to type this fast, before anyone in the family looks over my shoulder and faints....

here we go: 2 pair of jbl 166 horizons, both with black grills, ..looking for 2 red grills tho, 4 pair of jbl 100s, in various driver configurations vertically, 4 pair of jbl l26 decades..wonderful little 10 incher.......one pair of jbl 200s with brown grills, two pair of jbl l65 (neither say jubal on them tho) several pairs of jbl 520m small bookshelve speakers..small but nice in a 5 in woofer sort of way, one pair fo jbl p-30, made in Denmark with a 3 way design and 8 in woofer..nice woofer frame..looks like a seas driver set up? 4 pairs of 12 in woofers, crossovers, and some old corner loaded aristcrat enclosures with all jbl drivers.....one pair of dorians, but the granite top of one is cracked and will probalbly cost a small fortune to replace ........box of jbl plans for enclosures from the 70s, two lp jbl demo record albums, one pair of the old boxes with the little aluminum feet and a 12 in woofer and bullet tweeter in them....no bass to speak of but can blow you out of the room and bleed your eardrums in an instant if you are not carefull with the volume control////////// jbl rules in my world, although peter mentioned he had a pair of phase tech pc-80s, i also have those peter and love them in the bedroom.......my off jbl collections is even crazier and will not go into that here, but jbl is my first love

LOL!!! it was more like, "get those $%^&* things out of here or else I'll throw them out." I'd like to see her do that since they each weigh almost as much as she does.

Yeah, I've been trying to read up on these speakers. The conclusion I came to is that, if I am to keep them (not very likely at this rate, the houses are smaller here on the peninsula), they are going to go into custom cabinets before they will even be allowed into the main part of the house. I once had a cobbled up subwoofer and my wife would not allow me to bring it out of the garage into the main part of the house because it was hideous. I ended up throwing it away. It was a freebie pair of Advents that someone blew up and replaced the woofers with some car Kicker drivers. I turned it into an isobarik sub that sounded pretty good.

Lets see....We supply our drummer with a dedicated bass and guitar monitor that consist's of a single JBL E-120 in a good sized wedge driven by a simple 150 watt powered mixer head so he can customize the guitar/bass ratio himself. For a single speaker it gets very loud.

For an actual Drum monitor (Mixer fed) we use a wonderful old JBL 4699B.
this is set up as a tri-amped cab (new binding posts were installed instead of the original low current 1/4 jacks), the E-155 and E-110 (lows and mids) are fed from an inexpensive Behringer EP 2500, while the built in 2425H driver is fed from one channel of an EV 7100 (about 75 watts)...this is one incredible drum monitor.

We also use (2) JBL 2425J compression drivers for our mains. Although "used" when purchased they were in very clean shape and tested perfectly. The price on one of the driver/horn set ups was $180 which at the time seemed like a great deal (with the horn included), I planned on purchasing one, having them hold the other and obtaining the second one the following week. After I plucked down my money I was suprised to hear the salesman say-"don't forget the other one"...it took a second to get it- that price was for both of them! -While I was leaving I was sure he would come running after me saying he made a mistake. That was 15 years ago, those drivers have been through all sorts of sonic hell but have never once let us down.

The 2202 are in cabinets with the 4560 horns and 2426 drivers
1 pair of E140's are in cabinets with the 2345 horns and 2425 drivers used in our rental system
The 2242 s should be back this week and I have to build cabs for them.
1 K140 is in a bass guitar cab.
Both E130s are in guitar cabs.
The 2118s are built into two way 8" stage monitors
I also have various vintage passive crossovers, slant plates, and an unknown JBL 2" exit 4" diaphragm horn driver. (tthe label is gone off it, perhaps a version of the 2441?)
I also have several vintage Crown amps in various condition that I am restoring to use in my home theatre (two PSA2 and two D150a amps). We also have 2 Harmon Kardon Citation 16 amps, one of which is still used for smaller low powered PA setups. The other has a dead channel in it.

Hey pangea,

Thanks for the advise. However, I don't have any of the Playstations you mentioned. The CD player I have it the old Phillips Interactive that didn't go over too well in the early 90's. I does what it was designed to do quite well but that just did not include producing high quality CD sound. My old late 80's Sony CD player died a few years ago and that left me with the Phillips. The Sony was substantially better and probably didn't cost as much. I got it second hand and don't know the original price. My plan is to purchase a used Classe or Krell CD player in the 600 - 800 dollar range and later when I can afford it get a new high quality hi-res unit.
Again, thanks!!!!!!!!!

How can you compete with several of the posters here? Can't be done. Of course they are JBL loyalist, so it does make for interesting reading. Have you ever looked at the Audiogon members systems? Now that is some competition! Cubic dollars at work there, but no JBL! Yes I am jealous I would love to play with those toys, as well as a few Ducati motorcycles and any cars from Italy thats name ends in the letter I. [OK an L-88 Vette, Hemi anything, Cobra..you get the point]

The response on this post has been great! Obviously some posters could buy anything they want, but here they are! I am a brand loyal guy to the max. My first stereo had EPI 100's, a sony integrated amp, and a Phillips turntable, 1972. Since then-after replacing the EPI's with L-100's [still got 'em!] and 8 Triumph motorcycles [bought a brand new Daytona 500 when I was 17 years, 22 days old] I have had nothing but JBL since.

For several reasons, life [money wise] has been tough. I almost own a palatial spread of, well, not many sq ft. 4 rooms plus a food prep area. Real nice shed out back for the Triumphs.

Big room-4343 B's, powered by a Crown K1 and McIntosh 2125, Ashly crossover

Smaller room-Jubals, McIntosh 6100

Kids room, well, this is what the forum can do to you! Bought a pair of Radience [crap] series speakers for my teen son. Real nice veneer, very "entry level" components. So we cleaned, braced, insulated per site recomendations. Next replaced the componets with LE 10's reconed by the guy in Florida somebody recomended here, and the best LE 5's and LE 25's I could find. The LE10's are AMAZING! These speakers sound so much better at mid-high levels than the Centuries it is is, ah, rewarding. You think-could it be all the time spent on the rehab that makes the difference? Was a great father-son project with a great kid, but they really sound great! [sorry Rick you did'nt get to hear 'em]. You won't believe the $ I have in them, but what the hay, Its only money!

I'm in the Home Theater business and have always been a collector of the vintage JBL/Altec 1940s to early 1980's speakers. I have owned a few within my budget, but my all time favorite have been the 220's. I had a beautiful pair in the 90's but like an idiot sold them. However, I recently purchased a pair and they will stay with me for a lonnng time. They will need the LE14's refoamed, a given for their age. But, other than that, I am very pleased to have found a pair! Good to be back!:applaud:

Aloha

Added a pair of 4435's recently to collection, because I just had too!

They have the wrong woofers, otherwise in nice shape with original grills and consecutive ser. #'s. Wife likes them better than the 4343's ( someone painted them ugly black before I got them) or the Valencia's currently used in the living room.

Now I have to get some of my goodies together for sale to afford the correct woofers.

My interest in JBL picks up after the Ti Series. :D

Between the two of us, we must love them all.

Two L100 Century (original straight line drivers and my first new JBLs, 1970)
Two L5
Four L7
Two SVA1800
Two LX300
Five Sat10 (2 fronts, 2 sides, 1 center)
One Music10 Sub
Two EON 10 (powered)
Two EON 15 (powered)
Six PT800
One PC600
Three PS1400 (for now; need one more)
Two LE120H-1 in CSS200 enclosures; another LE120H-1 in a custom sub enclosure
One GT800P
Two GT100
Two GTO326
Six GTO626
Two GT963
One JBL Creature II

I think I got 'em all. Oh Wait! Our Compaq laptop has JBL speakers. :rotfl:

Since the above post I've added

2 L100 Century
2 L250
2 L60T
3 L7
1 L3
2 SVA1800
2 SVA2100
1 SVA Center

2 XPL160
2 XPL200
2 PT800
2 S2600
2 E50
1 LE120H-1 in CSS200 enclosure

'Tis truly a sickness. In my defense, over the course of three months, I listen to them all through my rotation system.

Each in its own way sounds good to me.

I've slowed down considerably but have added these:

4 PT800
1 HTPS400
4 240Ti

1 045Be
1 095Ti
2 046Ti
2 104H-2
1 123A
2 LE14H-1
1 708G-1
1 035TiA

The last eight listings are drivers only, of course.

With the addition of a Pro Co RMS-2 and all those new Hafler Amps, I'm able to keep six sets in rotation in the dungeon, plus I have three stereo set ups and two surround set ups in various rooms at home, plus stereo set ups in two offices. I do love variety. They all have their personalities.

Started this hobby almost two years ago. Had a Yammie CR820. Bought my first set of JBL's when I answered an ad for a Yammie CR1020 with unknown speakers. Got there and found JBL L112's needing refoam (my first job), receiver, Onkyo MCDP and 10g speaker wire. Everything in excellent condiiton-$40 for all. My second came when I saw an AA ad for free L100's needing repair. Local P/U only. Damage was done by either kids or wife years ago. Slight tear in one woofer and hole in the other. Pulled the woofer with hole and found the piece inside, along with a small baby bottle. They came in their original boxes. Glued everything back together and been playing them over a year with no probs.:)

At this point, I have NO idea what I'll be using the L100s for, but they just might combine forces & resources to make one "nicer" pair. The rest have jobs to do, with just the homeliest of the L46 cabs & grilles shelved as a spare.

If you remember my posts about my studio planning, I've recently decided that the fireplace is coming out, which will rearrange the whole room, potentially losing the plasma & surround system. This might bring the L100s back in, as playback monitors for that room- we'll see.

Welcome Varice! That's a great set, for sure. What are you driving them with?

The LE14H-3 is a strong, natural replacement. It should do you nicely when you find them. Even new, they aren't prohibitively expensive: less than $300 each. That's a sweet deal on a great driver.

Thanks for the welcome Titanium Dome!

I'm driving the 250Ti's with a Yamaha AX-596 Integrated Amp (100 watts per channel), music CD player is a Sony XA3ES, turntable is a Kenwood KD-2055, tuner is a Proton 440, system EQ is by a BSR EQ-3000 and a Marchand WM8 Bassis Parametric. The 250Ti system is also used as a monitor in my home studio for my electronic music instruments (electric guitar rig, several analog and digital synths).

I'm about 5 years into my second set of LE14H-1 drivers - can only expect about 5 to 10 more years out of them because of the foam surround. Last weekend I emailed Harman Audio to check on the availability of the LE14H-3 and was told that it has been discontinued! Hard to believe because it is used in the current JBL 1400 Array System. Anyway, forum member Zilch said that he would check to see if he could find a source of a new set of LE14H-3 drivers for me.

So, I am new here but I thought I would share my small collection with you guys. It all started around 1999, when I bought my first set of JBL's. I got a set SVA1800's at Best Buy on close out. I don't even remember what I paid for them. I took them home and hooked them up to cheap receiver. I never had any idea how good they could sound until 4 yrs. later,I finally got a good receiver and CD player. A Sony DA90EGS and a XA20ES. I was hooked. I had to find some more SVA's to complete the set. So now my collection includes the 1800's, a set of 1500's and a SVA center, along with a PB12 sub. That is in the living room. And the bed room setup right now is HLS, 810's for mains, 410's for surr. and an HLS center. Along with a PB10 sub. But I have got the bug. I think it is time to start adding some of the classic JBL's to my collection. :) It never ends does it? Oh, and you guys don't want to hear about the Sony collection, I think that is getting out of hand too. ;) But everyone here should understand, right???????

Welcome, and good job on getting those SVAs. They're definitely underrated and under represented here. I have some SVA2100s, SVA1800s, and an SVA Center (among other stuff). They really are quite a handful when driven by the right gear. WOW! Watch out!

The HLS Series is also under represented here. Despite what some would say about their construction and components, they were a very nice series in their own right. They were sorely missed in the marketplace when they were discontinued just about the time people were figuring out the bang-for-the-buck value they were.

And yes, having some vintage gear will be cool, but it's not a replacement for the more recent good stuff like the SVAs. It's just different.

I like having different systems to listen to. I have some receivers from the late 70's and early 80's and would like to compliment them with speakers from the same eras. I am just now learning to appreciate the different sounds. I am still young, I have a lot to learn :)

A few LE5-10/12's and 033's around here somewhere.

(non JBL: ARax2's & KLH Model 6's, one pair each of small bookshelf AR's and KLH's) Love to humiliate the East Coast sound. I romance my JBL's and make the AR's & KLH's watch ! :)

Sansui G-9000 DB w/ the L112/L110 2 channel (A/B)
Sansui 8080 w/AR's/KLH's 2 channel (A/B)

Pioneer SX 3700 (not in use)
Pioneer VSX505s (for HT) L112's L/R, RCA center (soon to be JBL when I can figure out which model would mate with the L112's/L110's) and L50/L40 rears.
Yes, i do reach behind the L112/l110's and rewire from Sansui 2 channel for music and Pioneer for HT/movies ! :banghead:
JVC JA S31 amp. (NOT in use):barf:
JVC QL-A220turntable (packed away):barf:

I want more - modern JBL, pure titanium but, as I'm prone to get info. overload, I must admit I don't know where to start ! I spend hours here reading, looking for
clues and go away exhausted and no further ahead each and every time I try ! Also happens in librarys and at Strawberries. Yes, I'm serious. Too much info. and I just shut down. Can't keep my 43xx,44xx,XPL's etc., what year what drivers etc., straight in my head ! Makes trying to read schematic's a real treat ! Oh yeah. I bought spare x-overs for both the L112's and L110's to do the upgrades. Been close to a year now and both pair are still "stock". The brain is a terrible thing ! Um, to waste ! But I do apprecaite SOUND ! :bouncy:

You could always get an unbalanced patch bay and some clean interconnects, and eleiminate the need to "reach behind" and re-wire between the Sansui and the Pioneer, which would give you enough "extra energy" to continue you research !! Nice system....

I got a real noob collection: 4301B - L46 - L36 - and I love them all. But, I do not anticipate getting any thing else accept replacement parts as needed. I am in heaven with my L36s and just plain content. I must also admit two other things. I am too broke to increase my collection, even if I wanted to. And, and family can barely handle anyone of these when the volume is past "3". I just can't imagine having anything bigger in the house. :-)

I see a lot of nice gear which is not part of our registry !!!!

reasons:
1. you don't like to register your gear
2. you don't know, that this registry is existing
3. you don't know how to do it

if 2. or 3. is the case:

here's again the link to the registry:

A pair of "legendary" ti10k's, custom-painted in a car factory. This is also my first JBL loudspeaker ever. In the picture to the right one of my previous speakers with the nice SEAS coaxial driver. It sounds nearly as nice as the JBL in the midrange, but lose miserably in the bass region (big surprise :p)

Just added two weeks ago, 4412L, 4412R. Set up in nearfield enviornment, Sansui AU-7700 integrated amp & Integra (Onkyo) CD/DVD player... Wowser!
More critical as to electronics used & recordings played than the 4310's and 4410's but on an excellent CD, clean & fast.
Soundstage (vs 4410's) is wider, not quite as "tall", as predicted.:D

My problem is--okay ONE of my problems is-- that I have several locations where I want to have JBL-quality sound. I can't afford that many Everest IIs, plus I can't wait forever to get them.

At the current time, I might be able to move to 1400 Arrays or Revel Ultima2 Salons. That'd be about it, plus keep at least six or seven other systems. Before I can do that, I have to get rid of some stuff. If I buy the "next" set of speakers first, I'll never get around to thinning the JBL herd. I'll end up adding them on like I always do.

Dome, you might hv seen the 1400 arrays and 880 center on our OC CL being offered for $7.8K

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ele/878455107.html

I think I saw these being offered a few months back with better pics (stated anaheim at the time)

gotta figure many go caught overextending themselves in real estate and goodies to go inside, now looking to offload. don't see much synthesis stuff come up often, especially at 40% of MSRP.....though the arrays are the prettiest thing in the world;)

My collection is narrowly focused on consumer models from the late 70's to early 80's:

L96
L112
L150A
L220
B380

Couple of pics for your viewing pleasure, the L220's in their previous home before I bought 'em, and one of the 4-5 pairs of L150A's that have passed through the house, in my big stereo room upstairs. They were just a bit in need of new foam at the time :-)

The L220's are currently living where the L150A's were in this pic. I'm currently waiting for the 2235H to come back from re-edging so I can add the B380 to that system, run off its own 300W mono amp.

I joined the forum a year ago but just noticed this thread so I might as well jump in...

2 pair L100's (mint*, original owner, purchased 1972-73)
1 pair L15s (near mint, just purchased last week; GREAT little speakers!)

*except, of course, in need of some Quadrex foam grills

That's it for now, but I'd love to add a pair of L300s, and/or 250Ti's so I can experience Nirvana before I die. It looks like you guys have the market cornered.

Buddha looks very happy with both your JBLs and your philosophy.

The Parable of the Lute—

“Tell me, Sona, in earlier days were you not skilled in playing string music on a lute? When the strings of your lute were too taut, was then your lute tuneful and easily playable?”

“Certainly not, O Blessed One.”

“And when the strings of your lute were too loose, was then your lute tuneful and easily playable?”

“Certainly not, O Blessed One.”

“And when the strings of your lute were neither too taut nor too loose, but adjusted to an even pitch, did your lute then have a wonderful sound and was it easily playable?”

“Certainly, Blessed One.”

“Similarly, if energy is applied too strongly, it will lead to restlessness, and if energy is too lax, it will lead to lassitude. Therefore, Sona, keep your energy in balance and in this way, focus your attention.”

I agree !!! Good Speaker One Pair is enough. Properly matched, the 4345 will really give you a really very mesmerizing effect. They are beautifully listenable, and very much in keeping with the qualities that the Best of JBLs have led me to expect. Matched properly, they are very clear and crisp. Fantastic soundstage, great depth and very tonally neutral. I haven't "summed up" in a little while, plus most of them are finally in use now, so here goes:

4333As (bi-amped in the living room, NHT sub)
L110s (control room monitors, with M&K sub)
L100As (main studio playback monitors)
L100As (utility room/work bench speakers)
L46s (five in the basement 5.1 system, one spare, Velodyne sub)
HP420s (in the studio for now, likely to become master bedroom speakers)

E140 in a bass cabinet along with Roland JC50 10"s on top
2135 in a small cabinet for guitar or bass
8110s in a small cabinet for guitar or spot monitor
8120 in a small practice amp
...a few spare tweets, just in case (033s, 034s, LE25s, 026Tis)

Of course, it's welcome! (I think Heather is joking about the "in the house" thing.) Some of JBL's best trickle-down technology comes from the car and marine unit. Most of my stuff is mid-level*, but the GTI Series is very attactive for a future upgrade.

two GT100 Subwoofer (JBL Grand Touring Series, 1996)

two GTO752 (two-way JBL Grand Touring Series, 1998)
two GT961 (three-way, JBL GT Series, 1995)

Plus my amps:

I sold most of my JBL systems in favour of building some.

Picture of my studio with one pair of 4355 standing on another pair of 4355 (only one pair hooked up): http://www.aamasters.co.nz/

Previously had 4435s and found them considerably inferior to the 4355.

Sold the 4435s to a friend who also bought one pair of my 4355s. Both pairs are running in his lounge. Sold the other pair of 4355 to another friend and we cut the front lips off, rounded the corners, filled the spare holes, and painted them gloss black. He sold his Wilson WITT speakers to get the JBLs. I thought the Wilsons were aweful.

Have built new speakers with 2 @ 2215 in a D'Appolito configuration with 2441 on DDS waveguide between the 15s. Not happy with them yet, need time to build a new crossover.

That's my new background :)

My own set consists of SR4725s, a pair of 123A drivers (in DIY open baffle 2 way), pair 2213 drivers (going to be tested in said 2 way) and LE8Ts in Lancer 33s. There are also 122A drivers, but they're so far out of spec that I modded them to be subs (cone coatings to add mass). It's the quality of the transducers rather than completed systems that gives me happy, with JBL.

The LE8Ts in the Lancers are about as good a midrange as I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of speakers. They're currently set up in my living room, but I'll probably do some better box designs for that driver. The front edge overhang on the box, more than anything else, is a diffraction nightmare.

I have just a single pair of 4301Bs so far.

I love them, and they're the reason I discovered this board. These were simply given to me when I discovered them in my girlfriend's dad's junk shed. I was not too sure what they were when I ran across them, but I always keep my eyes out for interesting, high-quality speakers, so I popped the grills off to have a look. I immediately recognized that unmistakable shade of blue from pictures of vintage JBL monitors I'd run across somewhere online, so I was pretty excited.

Now I can't stop learning JBL speakers. I find vintage audio technology extremely fascinating, and superior in many ways. I'm also pretty optimistic about future finds now, knowing that these are still out there waiting to be found!

Mine are just blessed :) That reminds me of the saying I heard was attributed to the M&K folks (I miss them) but who knows, it's probably much older, but ... "there are no grills like no grills". :applaud:

Otherwise, Now that my VTABA [Vintage Tube Amp Buying Addiction] has been largely appeased, my H/D/SBA [Horn/Driver/Speaker Buying Addiction] has become a bit out of hand lately buying for projects I keep thinking of but never seem to get off my keester to start and/or complete ... but I've amassed a decent quantity of used gear that I'll have to inventory and share in another post... ;)

Not a lot here...just a mere pair of 4412's and SR4725X's.

Couldn't get the 4645C + amp & X-O I wanted last year, hopefully this year. Not so much for financial reasons, but the housemate's a little afraid for what I might do with a good sub, (like creating minor earthquakes and breaking things, pissing off the neighbors, freaking out the cat, etc.) But she's starting to come around to the idea :bouncy: *insert evil laughter here*; since I've had the 4725X's there's been no probs...yet.

Also would like a small pair for the kitchen extensions - perhaps some 4406's or 08's - to replace the housemate's crappy KLH's (not like the KLH of old).

For PC sound I'm a heretic. :o: I have audioengine5's (http://www.audioengineusa.com/a5_home.php), which I think beat anything JBL has out now for that niche.

I just inventoried all of my audio equipment for insurance purposes. Needless to say it was rather scary how long the list was, but ...

In terms of JBL:

2X Control 10: Main listening area
2X Control 5: Office/PC
1X Bass 2: Office/PC
2X L46: Bedroom
2X E30: Closet (not currently in circulation)

Just added L220As to the collection. I had the proper foams for the LE14H, but not the PR15Ds, so I still have to wait another week.:(

Things change quickly around here ;)

The newly added PT800's are now part of the main system in the house. Originally intended for my small-ish listening room, they were simply too good to leave in such an acoustically "cramped" space. :D
