I would appreciate it if one of you would be kind enough to tell me the diameter of the cone proper - just inside of the foam surround.

Hmmmm...my B460's 2245H cone measures 15-1/4" Dia, just inside of the foam surround.

I wonder if they're different vintage - there were a couple different cone kits JBL used over the years. I did have this one re-foamed a few years back, but it's still got the original style cone with the white aquaplas on back. The place that did the foam is an authorized JBL dealer and did a great job, (I know it's not JBL authorized) - I can't imagine them cutting one rib off all the way around, (it doesn't look like it), but I guess anything's possible... 'Anyone else?

:) I have 12 2245īs, they all measure 15 1/4" of cardboard, if You measure just inside of the foam, they are 14 3/4".

This one measures 15 1/4" but is an aftermarket I think, but I am willing to try a standard JBL foam if I think it will fit. I replaced the dust cap, which is probably a little oversize. My ear probably can't tell the difference from a REAL JBL cone, but my head is telling me that it can't possibly sound right......

The second picture shows the same driver just before it was damaged with a rolling pin. :D

Here's my 2245H Cone; I can't swear that it's never been reconed but it appears identical to the picture on the front of the JBL "Low frequency systems" brochure-same number of ribs, etc.

Sorry I don't have the companion pic like R Beardsley! :(

Thanks, I think a standard foam is worth a try. Mine is definitely older - having the cylindrical "all metal" contacts. I've seen newer ones with the square plastic ones. The cones look similar, except the stiffening ribs in your look smoother. Mine has intermittent "gobbs" if you look closely.

I thought we discussed this before - your cone is aftermarket.

pmakres1's cone looks like the original Hawley cone.

Here's Bo's (Hawley) :

And Mike's (Mogami):

pmakres1's cone looks like the original Hawley cone but the foam job looks wrong in the picture.

I'm pretty sure this driver has never been refoamed-the transition from cone to foam is perfect as it would be on an original cone (or a recone kit). When you look up close you can usually tell a refoam and this driver does not appear to have had this done.

Yes we did Giskard!
I was just trying to save a couple of bucks until I can afford the real thing, and didn't know the size of a REAL JBL cone. Ordering a standard foam would not be of much use if they were a differnet size.

I just looked at your picture on a real monitor as opposed to the flat panel next to me and retracted my statement.

Ah! I can't remember the details... weren't you going to send that to me for a recone?

Yes I was, but I gathered from reading some of your posts that you were way overloaded with things to do. If that isn't a problem, PM me and let me know the specifics of what to do. Thanks, I do appreciate it.

Here's some pictures of a 2445 from my B460. This unit has the white aquaplas on the rear of cone.

I'll post a pic of mine in a day or two. White auquaplas on back, but definitely different at the foam. I think I may have to have a discussion with the local dealer who did mine...
