JBL/ConUS made speaker only available overseas.

What utter nonsense!

If the quality is there, then the cost ($1,200/$1,500 each) is reasonable.

With some very high quality alternatives to the 1500AL readily available, why waste valuable time designing around what is essentially North American vaporware?

It is obvious, that selling drivers of this caliber invites competition at the loudspeaker systems level. At $25,000 a pop, the hesitation to sell the constituent components at an aggregate cost considerably less than this is certainly understandable. However, there are flaws in this thinking, because when it comes to production of top quality drivers, JBL is not the only kid on the block. So component sales simply go elswhere at no loss in quality to the buyer, just at a diminution in JBL component and total sales.

Why is it that stupidity always manages to bubble up to the top of the corporate food chain? Whether it is an OEM sale or a DIY sale, it never the less is a product sale lost to others. Even if a competing product should have JBL components inside it, JBL wins by having a piece of the action that otherwise would have gone to others.

Why is it that stupidity always manages to bubble up to the top of the corporate food chain? With some exceptions, most of the people in higher echelons of corporate America are what we call talkers as opposed to doers. They literally talk their way to the top. They are stupid because they are so busy talking and being flagrantly extroverted that they have little time to think and develop strong cognitive skills. They usually have well manicured social skills though and tend to run in packs. Due to their lack of any real skill sets they have come to the conclusion that they are best suited to manage other people. Naturally they are often woefully dillusional but their support system protects them from having to face such distasteful realities.

Note that they are a protected species in our particular society. In "real life" they would die off rather quickly if there wasn't anyone around to provide them with food and potable water.
