Altec Power Amp 9444B

I just want to ask the board about this amp. I am going to be using it in home theater use. Specifically, I want to power a sub with one of the channels and boost the receiver with the other channel. I am looking into buying either a crown xls series or a qsc and while searching for one of those, I ran across the Altec 9444 B. I am wondering if it will sound equal to the crown or qsc. Price is 250.00.

The 9444B is a very good amplifier, and it is very reliable, too.

Do you need a single channel BIG amp, or a 2-channel medium-sized amp?

For now, a 2 channel medium powered amp will do just fine. I really want an amp with 5 or more channels for Home theater, but the wallet will not allow that. So for now, I have to settle for 2 channels, one to power sub and the other to drive my receiver for music only. The home theater will have to wait.
