Hi,
Is this speaker any good? I have a chance to buy one pair. Do they have tone controls like the L100? Most importantly, are they ported behind and are they boomy? Thanks.

L80 or L80T? I've never heard of the plain L80. The L80T is a great little speaker - no tone controls, though. They're probably ported in back. Someone has a pair for sale in the Marketplace forum right now - you might ask him.

It was advertised as L80S. Anyway, I'll let it pass as I figured it will not be a big jump over my 4312. I'll reserve the funds for bigger JBLs...

Anyone know any thing about the L80t3 ???:) I ran into a guy that says he has a pair for sale in mint shape for $225 CAN.

I think that an L-80S is an L80T with a vinyl imitation wood covering instead of real wood veneer.
That is a good deal on the L-80T3s.

Guys, I've have no knowledge of an L80s, but I've had a pair of L80T's for about a year. They have a rear port, no level controls, and thin, fragile veneer covering. The midrange is very, very nice, but the low end tends to lack definition.

Other than it's floor standing design and 104h-2 mid-range, it wouldn't be considered an improvement over the 4312, IMO.

The "s" versions are in fact veneered with vinyl instead of real wood. My Dad has a pair of L100S; same as the L100T, but with vinyl. I think the "s" may stand for "service" as Dad purchased his through the military PX.

Yes, the pair I saw is ash black vinyl. I don't like the idea that the port is rear firing, I have a small room, tends to boom...boom...boom...

It is many years ago since I heard the L80 speakers. They had port behind.
And they were good, but I think they were a bit bright in their sound. Perhaps to get a faster bass instead of getting one that goes deeper. Don`t know...
Good speakers though, but try looking out for the L100 with the 12 inches instead. The same midrange and tweeter, but the bass unit is very very good.

I have a pair of L100t3s in my Living Room and really love them.

I think these would be really nice with a sub to flesh out the bottom end. The ti HF and and that MF are sweet.
