4311B 4312b or L96

Hi guy as some of know I have a pair of L96's I am working on upgraded the crossovers on. Then I got to looking at 4311B's and 4312b and wondering if they would be better for me. I use tube amps at 50 watts per cha. and a tube CD player. Are the 4312b crossover like the 4311B just caps on the mids and tweeter. Seems to me they all would be heavy in the mids. The L96's seemed to have alot of mids to me. But I think the 4311B or 4312B would be great for driveing with a tube amp. What about the sound L96's vs 43xxB's

That's a tough call.


The late-late model 4312's are nice, since they have the newer mid/tweeter combo.

The 4311 has more "boom" in the LF than the L96.

The L96 has a more refined HF than the 4311 and a better (IMO) Mid section.

I definately think the crossover is smoother (and certainly more complex) in the L96. Plus, the LE-10 is a really nice LF driver. The 10" also seems to suit the cabinet size better than the 12" - 2213. Overall, it's hard to fault the L96 too much for anything, given what technology was available then. I would say this is especially true compared to the 4311 and early 4312.

So... I'd say it's a close call between the late-late model 4312 "A" and the L96. Which would I choose in the long run? Probably the L96 because of the combo drivers/crossover/cabinet build. Seems to be less of them floating around too...

**Caveat Emptor : Based on what I have heard/read here, If you modified the crossover to the 4313B? Definately the L96. Although I'm not complaining about the L96 with the aircores.

I drove the L-96's with a tube hybrid amp at 50 watts/ch and loved it..The L-96's are quite refined.

Will should I go for a pair of L100's I just want to restore just one pair and be done. But end with one of best from that rea of speakers. I'm a audio profile person. I was into JBL 20 years ago and I just want a pair for old time sake.

I say that ANY of the speakers mentioned would be a better option than restoring a pair of L100's. But then again, if you have them all, just listen to them... that's you personal preference for sound.
