Need to replace Woofers on old set of L26's. 10" 2 way ported box 13"-24"-13". Can't have them reconed. Looking for Freq. Response of the woofers that were in there. That info is not in owners Man. Also any suggestions as what to buy. Looking at a QSL or Dayton at Parts Express. QSL QS10P10 & Dayton ST255-8 About $60. Any help would be great Thanks, Lou

What is wrong with getting your 125A's reconed? You should be able to find replacement 125A or 127A pretty easy.

Maybe Audiokarma (http://www.audiokarma.org/) can help when it comes to asking about putting non-JBL drivers in JBL loudspeakers.

Ah! That's a bummer.
I'll check in the next few days for 125A's or 127A's. GordonW and others might have some too.

Katfour, the L26 is a fine looking and sounding speaker.

A word to the wise, stay with the original 125a woofers (or 127's if you must) - they won't sound right with anything else in there. And it's not like the 125a's are rare or expensive, either.

So, go get a pair on ebay or wherever and refoam them if you have to. They're one of the easiest to learn that procedure on and in the end you'll not only have a terrific set of speakers but a sense of accomplishment as well. :applaud:

The 125A and 127A are identical 10" transducers except for the orientation of the center dome. Inverted for 125A, normal for 127A. My point is, the dome orientation can sometimes be changed without a full recone.

(121, 122, 123, 124, 126, 128, 129 are all 12" transducers - go figure)

Let's see what other members have in the way of replacements. I might have a couple available but can't check today.

If you need some inspiration to do it right see recent posts from other members with respect to their L26's. thoots and wardsweb come to mind.

I need a pair for an L36 refurb as well. Need mids too.

I also have a pair of 125A's with rubbing vc's and surroundless... if anyone wants to bring 'em back to life for me... or wants them for DIY.

PM for more info.

I have a set of pretty nice L26's that need foam on the woofers. Would sell the cabinets for reasonable price. I draw the line generally at parting out JBL or Altec, or I would offer them separately. Steve

If worse comes to worse let me know i may have a pair or two or at least an extra. It will be 2 weeks before I even get to that side to go through all the crap. :barf:

I currently don't have any loose 125A, 127A or 127H drivers, dead or alive. Only ones here, are the ones in my L26s I have listed for sale...

As far as "cobbling it back together"... I have known of at least one person that used the Dayton Classic 10 (PE part # 295-315) as temporary replacement drivers in a pair of L26s, before he got a pair of good JBL woofers to go back in there. Apparently worked pretty well, for a stand-in. From what I've measured from that Dayton woofer, I can see it being a decent match...

Gordon.

As are the 120 and 131... with the 125 and 127 being 10"s, and the 130 being a 15".

Weird how JBL wound up with SO MANY different 12" woofer numbers...

Regards,
Gordon.

I'm sure JBL is not the only ones starting out a numbering system for their gear and then slipping in the oddballs.

I see the new drivers coming out now that you all mention and realize I am a dinasour as I am still learning all the older ones yet.
