Howdy All

Since I had a stack of granite left over from the house construction, I decided to put it to use with the HT project I was inspired by this forum to construct. The interior cabinets are constructed of Appleply with the granite attached with polyurethane adhesive. The granite wasn't long enough to do the center channel so I used a quilted bubinga veneer. The baffles are made of solid jotoba gluded to the appleply. These little dudes are heavier than a dead hippy. The two front speakers are going on top of a pair of Citations 7.4's. I can't wait to hear what they sound like. A decent HT receiver is my next item to purchase.

With those speakers, you won't need a truckload of power from the HT receiver (high efficiency, across the board)... what I'd recommend looking at, would be either a NAD T753 or a Marantz SR5500. The NAD is about $1000, the Marantz SR5500 is only $699. Either one should drive the daylights out of those, and sound good doing it. I've used both of them recently, and they perform VERY well.

Awesome looking cabinets. If they sound as good as they look, you should be grinning like a madman, once it's hooked up!!

Regards,
Gordon.

I recognize the 2118's in your cabinets, but what are the rest of the drivers? HF? LF?

I am using the 2426 drivers for the horn. I recently picked up a bunch without diaphragms for $25/each. They even threw in a pile of tires. I finished the center speaker last week and was able to give it a listen. I am very pleased with the results. I was afraid that the horn would be "in your face" but it is not. The MTM will go horizontal below the big screen.
BTW from the same company I was able to pick up a 2344A/2426J combo for $180/each. (These are for my 4355 project.)The horns look excellent and the drivers have JBL diaphragms. The shipping from Canada was rough in a couple of ways. If interested, take a look @ www.westbury.com (http://www.westbury.com).
Thanks for the receiver advice. I have been reading about the HK, Denon and the Yamaha and trying to decide.

I broke down and ordered the network assemblies and OASR horns for the SR 4702X directly from JBL. The cabinets are ported in the back to make my life easier.:)

I just realized you mentioned 2206 in the title - duh...

How do they sound? Are you using a sub with them?

You seem to have a good sense of function and style, well done. The HK DD DTS receivers are very powerful, they seem to have more "actual" power than others that are rated in their catagory. It took me a long time to purchase my receiver and I went with the Denon 3803 which is now the 3805. Either of these two companies will impress you with their offerings. The Yamaha's, of which I've owned , for a SHORT time, up to their RXV33000, were a "dry" lifeless type of sound with my Mordaunt-Short top of the line HT suite with the Energy MicroStar 12.1 1500 watt monster handling the LFE duties.

The phrase "DR. Seuss Horn" was on my packing receipt. Someone @ JBL has a since of humor. It made me laugh so I coined the phrase.

Beautiful workmanship.

I built a simular center. 2, 2123s and 2342/2416. I run it horizontal below a projection screen also. I know it is a comprimise due to lobing, but hey, it lets me get it closer to the screen.

Nice work indeed. Looks like the Seuss horns would drop right into the
old pro-cab access cut outs :D. (NC router template reuse?)

G'Day Woody,
Very very nice!

BTW, if this is what you did with the 2426's .... what did you do with the Tires?

Regards Scott

Howdy Scott

The "tires" were for the cermanic magnets on the 2426's. It is a rubber surround that I requested because of damage that happens during shipping. There are a few knuckle draggers working for UPS and USPS that can ruin a speaker in a heartbeat.
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the compliment.

Hi, Woody.

Very nice work!

Tell us, please. Do the horns adequately support the 2426's, or did you do more for that?

They do have an metal insert for the thread; I'm wondering if you found that adequate to the task....

I was comfortable using the OASR horn and 2426 together without additional support. The horn is stout and made of cast aluminum no less than 1/4" thick. Very nice product for the price.
