Dear members of this forum,

I am rebuilding a pair of 4410 studio monitors with new bass recones, new midranges and tweeters. The wood has been reoiled from a professional restorer. Now I got a pair of L 166s in not so good condition. The enclosures need only some work, but the 122A 1 drivers need refoaming, the midranges need new cones, and the tweeters are both without function. Is it worth the money, to do it?
Can anybody advise me, how good the L 166s are compared with my soon finished 4410s?

Many greetings from Munich,

4410's are true Studio Monitors, clean, accurate, with little coloration, to some tastes, therefore, even "dry" sounding.

L166's are derivative of the L100 lineage, some say one of its best incarnations, more "up front" like Control Monitors.

They're both well worth the effort of restoration, perhaps to use in different locations in your home. I'd consider the 4410's more for "serious" listening, and the L166's more "recreational." :D

[There's an article about different sounding monitors in the forum somewhere...]

The L166 are fine speakers.

The Mid cones should be available but the 066 are no longer serviceable. Used 066 are also hard to get.
A 044 would do as substitute and is easier to get.

For the refoam PM me if you need help for the parts
