Hope this isn't too simple but can someone explain (no detail is too much detail!) how a bi-amped setup is wired? I know that you have separate amps for lets say passive subs and the main speakers. I know you need a crossover, where does it go? Is it between pre-amp and amp or between amp and speakers? Or other?

thanks for the patience!

Hi Fred;

With a bi-amped system the electronic crossover goes before the power amps, as you say, between the pre-amp and power amps, or maybe the output of a mixer. In a 3 way system you would need 3 power amps, one for the low end, one for the mids and one for the high end all being fed from the crossovers output.

For the example you cited, many preamps/controllers have subwoofer output(s), the crossover being already built in. In that case, you merely connect an amp to the passive sub(s).

Fred;

You said that no detail is to much detail so heres a link to a Pdf white paper from Audio Control on biamplification:D
