Well I finally finished both my 6L6GC SE project AND the other homebrew 3 way, making my system stereo once more. I'm extremely happy with the 6L6, more than enough power to drive the 2123/2421 top end with the 2235's driven by the Yamaha SS amp. The detail is incredeble, music I'd listened to a thousand times is brand new again with missing layers and nuances revealed. The best part is how overdriven guitar sounds thru the 2123's. Crunchy and fat. I posted a pic of the work of art below. Pretty crude chassis but being lazy I wasn't about to spend a ton of time on something that might sound like dog poo. It shows KT66's in place of the 6L6GC it was designed for, which to me sound a touch smoother, but I do like the extra crunch the Winged C 6L6's have (being a guitar tube and all.

Yeah they blow goats, but your project is neato and I'd like to hear it anyway. :p

"blow goats" is that a technical term or is it how you really feel....lol...

That's cool, what do you get out of it, 2 or 3 watts?

Actually closer to 10 watts. Maybe even a watt or 2 higher with the KT66's instead of the 6L6's. This amp also squeezes a bit more power out by running in Ultra linear. I chose this design more for it's simplicity than power output, but I'm sure even a watt or 2 would have been enough to drive the top end with the eff. of the 2123's and 2421's.

I don't know if you wired it to be able to use El34/6CA7's in it or not, but I have found the El34's to sound a little bit smoother than the 6L6's.

Very nice looking amp. I am a big fan of "Single-ended" tube amps. Pentode or Triode, they both have their place in my system!!!

To answer your question, I believe the EL-34's can be run in the amp with little or no rewiring. It's definately something I'd like to try. I have swapped out the 6L6's for KT-66's and they seem a little smoother than 6L6's, however on some "crunchy" stuff, I like the Winged C 6L6 better. Very subjective.

The EL34 heaters pull 1.5 amps compared to the 6L6 .9 amps.

The PS would need to be able to handle that.

Trannys look pretty good sized. Are those Hammonds, or Electra-print maybe?
