We will be having the second Project May audition in the Widget Sound Bunker this Saturday, March 5th, at 1:00 PM. It is open to all forum members who can make it to San Francisco. An award to the member who travels the farthest will be presented.

If you would like to attend, send me a PM for directions and details. BYOB or CD or SACD, or better yet all of the above!

I'm in.

Will not be bringing SmaartLIVE unless you wanna compare it. I think you've got "ample" testing power with CLIO... ;)

Thanks, Mr. Widget.
My best to Ms. Gadget.

BTW: I hope that those who came by post their impressions either on this thread or probably more appropriately on the thread linked above...

Here are 2 pics I have resized of one of the speakers and one of the crossovers we ended up using. There are a few more but they need some help.:p
Mr. Widget is a gracious host and it was a real pleasure to be a part of it with a
great group of people!

Sorry about that. I guess you haven't been delving into the Project May areas. You will need to send a PM to Don and he will grant you access. It is open to everyone on the forum, but it does require being signed up.

Send Don the note... you have a bit of catching up to do!

BTW: For those that don't want to bother signing up with Don, most of the more salient points are covered in the blog that you can get to by clicking on the Project May button at the top of every forum page... but there is a bit of a time lag.

It was a fun time, but I definitely learned 4 beers is my limit - I'm lucky I made it home!

My first impression was that I thought the speakers had already been EQ'd flat, then I learned it was just the crossovers at work. Impressive! I did agree with others that thought the bass was a little soft, although some really good bass came on in some of the recordings. I didn't stay late enough to hear the work done on the horns...

Anyway, since system pics have been posted, here are some people pics.

The first is Carl and Don C. in back, then SpeakerDave, Widget, and Bo in front.

The next is Samtastic, Infredible, Bo, Carl, and Rob?

And the last is me, after too many beers! ('Sorry, Bo - I was too gone to make your gig that night - 'hope it went well!)

Was there any ideas discussed about the industrial design?

Ian

Well the point is he has more experience that the rest of use put together when it comes to playing with and listening to JBL's and I think (with all due respect to The Widget and our friends at the audition) his intuition of the tweaks that have been made so far would be very valuable in finalising the acoustic design.

Perhaps at some stage further down the line Giskard will be able to audition project May

Like so many of us I will never hear the system so... :dont-know

Wheeee!! I had a great time! Widget rox!

Here are my impressions (remember im jus a n00B)

One of the major things we noticed was how immensely different it sounded at various off axis levels (time alignment issue?). When seated the mid was great, but standing it really felt a bit muddied.

I found it interesting that with some recordings the bass was nice and thick and sounded great, but with others it felt very weak.

I'll post my asthetic impressions/thoughts on the other forum when i get access.

Thanks again to Widget!! and it was awesome meeting everyone there!

:D
