View Full Version : Equivalence Table JBL consumer and pro gear

Hi

This is probably a dumb question but can someone point me to a table etc which identifies equivalent or near equivalent JBL consumer and pro gear - eg 375 = 2440, or LX5 = 3110. For example can it be said that a L300 is broadly equivalent to a 4333 or is it a 4333A?

I came to JBL gear through a friend who had a pro background so I have a very limited knowledge of the consumer grade gear even though my interest is with DIY home speakers rather than pro applications. I am not sure why JBL decided to adopt dual labelling in the first place for components. Certainly from the point of view of some one who is mainly interested in obsolete components (not the market JBL would focus on) I find it confusing.

TIA

Ted

Well, no, LX5 is 500 Hz, and 3110 is 800 Hz. You're thinking of 3115, rather, and I think even that has different topology.

We need a chart, yup. :applaud:

Thanks very much.

I assume you will post how to find it when it is available? Not exactly sure what you mean by the Technical Reference Section.

And to answer this -

For example can it be said that a L300 is broadly equivalent to a 4333 or is it a 4333A?Here's a quick matrix -

Note that it is highly unlikely the dates from Harman for the L300 and L300A are correct.
All these components are acoustical equivalents.

Thanks Now I know my way a little better around the forum.

Um, that was a few years ago. Did the consumer<->pro matrix ever make it? If so, I cannot find it (which does NOT mean it doesn't exist, just not obvious to me!)

I'm not real driven to sit down and do all that kind of stuff anymore.

Someone else will have to do it. If you want my input that's fine, I'm just not going to waste my time doing it all myself.

I'll verify and proofread stuff, thats about it.

Aust-Ted, I don't know of a published substitution table or if there are exact acoustic AND appearance equivalences between Pro & Home. I think a LE85 is acoustically very similar to a 2420 but they have different backs, colors and maybe impedances over the years they were built.
FWIW, here's a starter list of approx Pro=Home acoustic similars since 1972 or so that I can think of and am fairly sure of:
2215=LE15A
2216=LE15B
2231A=136A
2231H=136H
2307=H91
2308=L91,L92 and/or L93
2311=H93
2312=H92
2402 & 2402H=075
2405 & 2405H=077
2420=LE85
2421=?
2440=375
2441=376
3105=N7000 approx
3106=N8000 approx
3120=N1200 approx
3133=N333
I think the level of acoustic similarity between Pro & Home complete speaker systems is less than that of the individual components due to packaging, baffleboard angles, etc. ie 4320/L200, 4333/L300, 4310/L100?

Yes and it would read someday.......:( with pics like these. I can't even get to the other side to get at the others. All the same model.....dull. Someday it will be finished. Have 2 pairs upstairs singing. Waiting on the grills for the 4430s and they will be cleared out. The 4413Bs are staying.
