Hi all, I have read quite a bit in this forum on the best 15 inchers around, not so much about 12inchers. I am wondering about buidling a new bass - low mid cabinet (Xover probably at 600Hz) with dual 10 or 12" and I am wondering which ones I should be searching for, I currently use a single LE15A per channel, would LE10H be a good choice?

Thanks for pointing me in a good direction to start...

Cheers

I think the 124A would probably be considered JBL's best 12" woofer. Although they are pretty rare.

JBL's best sounding 12" system in my opinion was the 120Ti which I believe used the 128H-1 woofer.

I think you would be better off using LE10H's. To my ears they are tighter than the 12" woofers.

I like the 2214H. Deep cone, big magnet and man, does it move a lot of air. I replaced the 128H's in my L-150's with the 2214H out of the L100T and I've never looked back. Tighter, more effortless bass.

'Anyone had the opportunity to check out the 2203H 12"? I like the 2203A in my 4315A's - 4" voice coil.

Yes.
2203A = 124A
2203H = 124H

How low will this cabinet need to go? The only problem with LE10s, is that they have a lot more limited air-movement capacity, compared with a 2214 or a 124H. Two LE10s, IIRC, aren't quite even the match of a single 2214 or 124H... the 12s have a significanly longer voice coil winding which gives them a lot more excursion capacity...

With the drivers having to do 600 Hz, I'd be inclined, from a wholy theoretical acoustical-propogation standpoint, to use a single 12" than a pair of 10"s to achieve suitable output levels. However- that said, I actually HAVE managed to make dual-10s (not JBL, but the geometry is still the same, as far as dispersion is concerned no matter what brand, of course) sound VERY good crossed over at 650 Hz... so it's NOT impossible at all...

Gordon.

The best sounding JBL 12" for your application would be the LE14H-1. :p

Thanks a lot everybody!! I'm gonna try digest all this and see what sort of design I could cook up with that, the most difficult will be the limited availability of this stuff over here, which my be the decisive factor. I'd like this system to try to go as deep as my current one, but from all I've read, I am expecting a faster, tighter bass from 2 smaller drivers than 1 15" = although the main interest is that it should in the end be a lot less bulky, even with 2 drivers...
